Sync CFO Services is our finance arm — fractional CFO, bookkeeping, and sale\-readiness for Lower Middle Market companies ($1M–$25M revenue) whose owners are working toward an exit.

Our flagship Sync to Sale package is a recurring accounting engagement built from day one to survive Quality of Earnings review and preserve valuation at closing. Client Controllers are the engine behind the package — the people who make sure the books are exit\-ready every single month, not scrambled together in the 90 days before a buyer shows up.

About the role

We are hiring A\-Player Client Controllers to work with own the accounting work behind the Sync to Sale package across our client portfolio. Every book you touch is owned by someone planning to sell — eventually or soon — and that changes how the work gets done. You aren't keeping books tidy for tax season. You're keeping them diligence\-ready for a buyer. High professionalism and expectations are a given in this role.

You will be the Controller on your assigned clients — running the close, drafting the financials, researching technical accounting questions, proposing journal entries, and delivering a buttoned\-up package for Accounting Lead review. This is ideal for a current or former in\-house Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Accountant who wants remote, flexible, 1099 work across multiple exit\-focused clients.

Exit\-focused, not tax\-focused. Our clients aren't optimizing for a tax return — they're optimizing for a sale. That means clean accruals, defensible NWC, clear revenue recognition, and zero surprises when the Quality of Earnings analyst starts asking questions. If that excites you, this is the right seat. What we're looking for

• 5\+ years of full\-cycle accounting experience, including
prior Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Accountant responsibility
• Strong working knowledge of
accrual accounting and GAAP — you can book a deferred revenue entry, defend an accrual, and draft a balance sheet without hand\-holding
• Comfortable producing
monthly financial statements end\-to\-end and presenting them to a reviewer

* QuickBooks Online required. NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or Xero experience a plus

• Strong Excel — pivot tables, lookups, clean formatting
• Reliable home workspace and the discipline to hit deadlines without being chased
• Clear, written communication — the Accounting Lead and clients need to understand your notes without a phone call
• Detail obsession — you notice when a sub\-ledger is off by $4\.37 and you don't ignore it

Nice to have

* Prior exposure to a company sale, QoE review, or audit — you've been the person pulling schedules for a buyer or auditor

• Experience at an outsourced accounting firm (Pilot, Bench, Acuity, Supporting Strategies, etc.)
• Bookkeeping certifications (QBO ProAdvisor, Xero Advisor)
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance

* GovCon, DoD, cyber, or gov tech experience a plus — familiarity with government contract accounting, DCAA, indirect rate pools, and cost\-type vs. fixed\-price contracts

No CPA required. This is an execution role — you don't need to be a credentialed accountant, but you do need to be excellent at the actual bookkeeping work.

How the engagement works

• 1099 contractor — you invoice us, we pay weekly
• Time tracked in 15\-minute increments by client
• Starting assignment is typically 1–2 clients (\~15–25 hrs / week); scales as you prove out
• Rate increases tied to retention, quality, and taking on more clients
• Annual reviews on rate and scope

Pay: $50\.00 \- $70\.00 per hour
