JOB DESCRIPTION:
UF Information Technology (UFIT) is currently seeking an entry\-level Student Captioning Assistant to assist with transcribing lectures and creating closed captioning files for Academic Technology, a unit within UFIT. This includes arranging closed captioning for course lecture videos to produce accessible course materials in compliance with ADA standards.
UF Information Technology (UFIT) enables teaching, learning, research, and service on campus and across the region with state\-of\-the\-art enterprise IT systems, including SEC and SUS universities, and the opportunity to teach using HiPerGator.
The Student Captioning Assistant will help with transcribing and creating closed captioning for course lectures and other captioning services. They will also help deliver online lecture content for students with closed captioning accommodations and departmental closed captioning needs. Occasionally, they will assist the captioning manager in accepting requests for captioning.
Some key responsibilities and characteristics of this position are:
- Transcribing course lectures.
- Uploading or integrating captions into online lecture platforms.
- Maintaining accurate project logs.
- Required typing skills: 60 correct words per minute, with a high accuracy rate
- Excellent written communication skills
- Excellent command of English grammar and punctuation
- Attentive listening and comprehension skills
- Organizational and time management skills
- Ability to manage projects and work independently and as a team
- Work well under deadlines/pressure
- Prior experience with transcription equipment (foot pedal and software) is a plus, but not necessary (can be trained)
- Knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and closed captioning standards
- Comfortable with Microsoft Suite
