  • Primary Function:

    The Director of Networking, Education for Ministry (EfM) ensures that EfM remains connected, responsive, and missionally expansive. This role expands and sustains EfM’s relational ecosystem by cultivating strategic partnerships, strengthening ecclesial connections, and identifying pathways for growth. The Director advances EfM’s presence within the Church and beyond, building networks that support formation worldwide.

    This position works with considerable independence and self\-direction. Only the general direction and scope of the work to be accomplished are discussed with the supervisor. Position Appointment Details:

  • Typical Duties \& Responsibilities:

    Relational Strategy and Expansion

  • Develops and implements a strategic plan for expanding EfM’s relational ecosystem
  • Identifies opportunities for growth, collaboration, and broader engagement
  • Ensures EfM remains responsive to emerging needs within the church and global contexts
  • Diocesan Relationships

  • Develops and sustains relationships with dioceses across The Episcopal Church
  • Serves as a primary liaison for bishops, diocesan staff, and formation leaders
  • Promotes EfM as a resource for diocesan formation and leadership development
  • International Partnerships

  • Cultivates and strengthens international relationships to expand EfM’s global reach
  • Supports contextual adaptation and collaboration across diverse cultural settings
  • Identifies strategic partners for sustainable international growth
  • Denominational Collaboration

  • Builds partnerships with other Christian denominations and theological institutions
  • Explores collaborative opportunities that align with EfM’s mission and formation philosophy
  • External Engagement and Growth Pathways

  • Develops strategies to increase awareness, participation, and long\-term engagement
  • Collaborates with communications and leadership teams to support outreach initiatives
  • Tracks partnership effectiveness and recommends adjustments to strengthen impact
  • Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in church leadership, nonprofit networking, or partnership development
  • Strong understanding of ecclesial structures, particularly within The Episcopal Church
  • Experience cultivating international or cross\-cultural partnerships
  • Excellent communication, relationship\-building, and strategic planning skills
  • Ability to represent EfM with clarity, warmth, and theological depth
  • Judgement Required:

    Judgment and discretion as to the use of established policies are required to perform the essential duties of this position. Budgetary Responsibility:

    Monitors expenditures against budget; prepares budget data for review/approval by supervisor/department head. Machines \& Equipment Used:

    Seminary students and EfM online learners Internal (Operations Committee, Faculty, Administrative department heads)

    Frequent interaction with diocesan coordinators, EfM Online trainers, and mentors. Works daily with other EfM support staff, seminary, and Programs Center staff. External (Regents \& Trustees, government officials or agencies, visitors, parents, other institutions, colleges, or companies, suppliers)

    Works with diocesan bishops and staff as needed to facilitate appointments of coordinators and troubleshoot issues at the diocesan level. Interacts with visitors. Communicates with parish clergy and staff as needed for maintaining contracts.

    Attributes of a Successful Candidate

  • Education:

    A bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree is preferred.

    Experience:

  • Has knowledge of the Education for Ministry program and familiarity with its training program, with coordinator, trainer, and mentor networks and with the Episcopal diocesan and church structures.
  • Has experience with the EfM Program or a similar adult education program.
  • Can design and lead training and evaluate effectiveness.
  • Has an appreciation for how to train, manage, support, and inspire volunteer servant leaders.
  • Has at least five years’ experience in a management and leadership position.
  • Job\-Related Skills:

    Strong writing, speaking, listening, public relations, marketing, training, organizational, planning, project management, attention to detail, problem/issue resolution, negotiation, decision\-making, accounting, computer (word processing, spreadsheet, database, electronic publication and communication media, PowerPoint, and Google Apps software) and desktop publishing skill, is flexible and works well independently. Proficiency with Blackboard is a plus.
