Job Responsibilities

  • Serves as the County Safety Representative for Pickens Maintenance Facilities to detect safety hazards in work operations, in buildings, with machinery and related equipment and on the roadway. Protects employees from potentially hazardous chemicals, machine tools, and processes. Ensures that facilities and grounds are in compliance with OSHA regulations. Inspects work zones to ensure that traffic control applications for work zones on the roadways are in proper compliance. Ensures the "Personal Protective Equipment" (PPE) policy is met in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. Ensures proper PPE equipment is issued to employees. Ensures all remote work sites, the shop yard, equipment, and facilities are kept up to the guidelines for annual audits and surprise visits by OSHA inspections. Completes paperwork of deficiencies found. Reports all problems immediately and arranges for corrective actions to be taken. Coordinates yard clean up and ensures the facility meets the

    Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. Responds to safety, health and environmental emergencies and ensures the appropriate oversight agency is notified. Plans and conducts safety meetings. Trains employees to ensure a safe working environment and to prevent injuries. Training includes but not limited to Fleet Safety, American Automobile Association (AAA) instructor, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, Blood borne pathogens, Safety Data sheets (SDS), Work Zone safety, Flagger training, and other required workplace training. Keeps records of all training and documents training in the Learning Management System (LMS). Serves as the Environmental Officer for Pickens County. Performs environmental audits monthly, quarterly and annually and documents findings. Ensures that any problems found are corrected in a timely manner. Keeps the facility in compliance with DHEC regulations. Ensures that the maintenance complex is kept up to guidelines of annual QMT Audit, quarterly and annual environmental audits,

    surprise SCDOT and DHEC inspections. Updates and maintains Underground Storage tanks (USTs), Above ground storage tanks (ASTs), Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) plans and records. Documents and investigates injuries and vehicle/equipment accidents and provides the first report of injury (12A) and Vehicle reports (576\). Inputs injuries and accidents into the Risk Management System. Makes recommendations to prevent reoccurrence. Prepares and maintains OSHA injury record keeping logs. Performs random audits of clerical records and supplies to ensure that SDS (Safety Data Sheets) are

    current. Assist with Safety campaigns and other safety educational programs. Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • A high school diploma and two (2\) years of experience in occupational safety or industrial hygiene programs. A bachelor's degree in public health or a related field may be substituted for the required work experience.

    The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural

    environmental hazards. This position requires working in an office environment, warehouse environment, and/or outside in all weather conditions. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental\-related emergencies. Requires travel as needed and assigned.
