Job Title: Accounting Clerk
Job Summary
The Junior Accounting Clerk provides entry\-level accounting and administrative support for a federal contracting company, assisting with day\-to\-day financial operations and recordkeeping. This role supports transaction processing, project cost tracking, billing and compliance\-related documentation under established accounting procedures. The position offers hands\-on exposure to government contract accounting and emphasizes accuracy, organization, and adherence to internal controls and regulatory requirements. This opportunity is well\-suited for individuals beginning a career in accounting or federal contracting.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with daily accounting activities, including accounts payable and accounts receivable processing
- Accurately enter, update, and maintain financial data in accounting systems
- Support cost tracking by project and contract under supervision
- Assist with employee timekeeping reviews and labor cost documentation
- Prepare and organize supporting documentation for government invoices and internal reporting
- Maintain financial and contract\-related records in compliance with record retention requirements
- Assist with basic account reconciliations and contract balance reviews
- Support month\-end close processes and routine financial reporting activities
- Gather and organize documentation requested for billing, internal reviews and government audits
- Adhere to established accounting policies, internal controls, and compliance requirements
- Perform additional accounting and administrative duties as assigned
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree, or
- Relevant coursework, in Accounting, Finance, Business or related professional field, or
- 1–2 years of accounting, finance, bookkeeping or administrative experience
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and general office productivity software
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential financial information
- Willingness to learn and work within a regulated, compliance\-driven environment
