  • This position serves as a Restitution Assistant for the Office of Justice Programs, Minnesota Crime Victims Reparations Program. The Restitution Assistant communicates and works with victims, applicants, victim service providers, community corrections agents, probation officers, prosecutors, private attorneys, court administrators, and other criminal justice professionals. This person applies the provisions of Minnesota Statutes 611A.52 – 611A.67, the Minnesota Crime Victims Reparations Act, and the provisions of Minnesota Statutes 611A.04 \- 611A.045\.

    The Department of Public Safety is unable to provide sponsorship for work visas. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States at the start of employment. DPS does not participate in E\-Verify.

  • ### Minimum Qualifications

  • Skill in customer service to interpret and explain program information to customers, clients, and coworkers, such as policy, procedures, eligibility requirements, application detail, and payment methods
  • Skill in accounts receivable and computerized billing systems sufficient to enter and access information, and identify and correct errors
  • Ability to provide prompt and accurate information to customers in person, on the phone, and through email and other written or electronic correspondence
  • Skill in data entry sufficient to receive and review source documents, compare documents to database information and edit documents; accurately input, verify and edit electronic data
  • Knowledge of database management sufficient to enter and retrieve data; review and analyze data and identify problem areas in areas which include data, formulas and security
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a variety of formats to gather and relay information with tact and diplomacy; present information to diverse customers
  • ### Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of legal, medical and other technical terminology
  • Excellent word processing skills and knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel and specialized database systems (such as CAWEB, and SWIFT)
  • Ability to conduct research regarding claims and summarize the information clearly and concisely
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, and must be able to prioritize an often overwhelming workload, manage a variety of tasks effectively, develop internal deadlines, and assume new responsibilities on short notice
  • Ability to use good human relations skills to interact with others, including common courtesy, tact, interest in positive problem solving, empathy and logical organization of ideas
  • Ability to work cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities
  • ### Physical Requirements

    Requires occasionally moving and transporting such articles as file folders and small tools. May need to maintain a stationary position for long periods of time while carrying out job duties.
