East Morgan County Hospital is seeking a compassionate and skilled Per Diem Registered Nurse to be our RN Trauma Coordinator.

  • Conduct weekly concurrent or retrospective reviews of all traumatically injured patients admitted or transferred from the facility, ensuring care aligns with facility policies, protocols, and State of Colorado Level IV trauma requirements; identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with the trauma registrar team to ensure timely, accurate submission of state trauma registry data.
  • Participate in bi‑monthly meetings with the Trauma Medical Director to review cases not resolved at the primary level and address process improvements, education needs, and system issues.
  • Co‑lead bi‑monthly Trauma Operations and Case Review meetings in partnership with the Trauma Medical Director.
  • Attend weekly regional trauma huddles (virtual).
  • Coordinate and support injury prevention initiatives, such as fall prevention, bike helmet education, and Stop the Bleed programs.
  • Partner with nursing leadership, educators, and EMS to plan and deliver required annual trauma education.
  • Attend monthly NCRETAC meetings (virtual or in person).
  • Ensure trauma\-related policies and protocols remain current, compliant, and reflective of all State of Colorado requirements.

Please note, this role requires the following at the time of hire:

* Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

* Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN)

* Minimum of three (3\) years of recent clinical experience in an acute care, emergency, or trauma setting

POSITION SUMMARY

This position supports optimal care for injured patients for applicable level of trauma center. The role involves leading, developing, and coordinating quality\-related processes according to state practice guidelines and American College of Surgeons (ACS) standards where applicable. The position also oversees and ensures compliance with both state designation requirements and ACS standards as applicable.

CORE FUNCTIONS

1\. Supports daily operational requirements of the trauma program. Collaborates with the trauma medical director or trauma physician liaison to establish and maintain a continuous survey\-ready environment.

2\. Engages in clinical activities to sustain proficiency in trauma patient care. Coordinates and delivers trauma\-related educational programs for trauma team personnel, including new hire orientation and targeted training based on identified performance improvement opportunities in all areas across the continuum of care.

3\. Evaluates trauma patient care through concurrent chart review and monitoring. Maintains a trauma\-specific quality improvement program that enhances clinical outcomes, processes, and systems for injured patients in alignment with service line objectives and national benchmarks. Facilitates relevant committee meetings and ensures comprehensive documentation.

4\. Contributes to data workflows, including collection, validation, and reporting. Demonstrates proficiency in trauma registry inclusion criteria and applicable injury coding/scoring methodologies (e.g., ICD\-10, AIS, ISS). Generates accurate statistical reports regarding program performance and outcomes.

5\. Facilitates effective communication among staff, physicians, referring facilities, and emergency medical services. Partners with multidisciplinary team members to address quality of care issues and advance program development initiatives.

6\. Assists in ensuring adherence to local, state, and national verification and designation requirements. Participates in preparation for trauma site surveys and maintains compliance with state regulations and American College of Surgeons (ACS) trauma care standards as applicable. May assist with preparedness for other related programs as needed.

7\. May represent the facility at community events related to trauma care and injury prevention or participate in health system\-sponsored outreach activities. Supports community education and prevention initiatives.

8\. Performs all duties in accordance with established organizational policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and applicable professional practice guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess a strong knowledge and understanding of nursing and healthcare as normally obtained through the completion of a bachelor's degree in nursing. BSN required for all individuals entering the role effective 1/4/2026\.

Current RN Licensure in state of practice.

At least three years recent clinical experience in an acute care, emergency or trauma setting. Able to use standard office software (spreadsheets, presentations, word processing). Good interpersonal relations skills. Self\-motivated with ability to work under minimal supervision. Must demonstrate proficient interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

TNCC or ATCN certification required at the time of hire.

Trauma Outcomes and Performance Improvement Course (TOPIC) must be completed within six months of hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

TNCC\-I, ATCN or ENCP certification preferred. Experience with AIS/ISS and ICD\-10 coding, and trauma registry data experience preferred. Injury prevention experience preferred. Previous trauma coordinator experience preferred. Knowledge of performance improvement processes preferred.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
