The Post\-Doctoral Research Fellow (PDRF) will design and conduct research within a specific field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuing a professional career in Medical Physics. The ideal candidate will work with the Principal Investigator to develop new ideas, design and evaluate experiments, process and analyze data, and prepare scientific manuscripts for publication. The initial appointment is for one year, and renewal is expected upon the PDRF’s performance. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support lead and contribute to the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and automation solutions for clinical applications in radiation oncology, with a strong emphasis on improving treatment planning, workflow efficiency, and decision support.
- Participate in and support a broad range of innovative clinical and translational projects, including proton treatment planning, treatment evaluation, device and software tool development, FLASH therapy, adaptive radiotherapy, reirradiation, and implementation of new clinical protocols.
- Apply physics, mathematical modeling, and analytical reasoning to interpret complex clinical problems and identify optimal solutions for research and clinical implementation.
- Comply with all New York Proton Center policies related to Privacy Rules established under the Health Information Privacy and Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
- Other clinical and research supports as needed.
- Ph.D. degree in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.
- Strong programming skills with MATLAB and Python; scripting skills in Eclipse are preferred.
- Experience in AI, machine learning, and automation development is highly preferred.
- Must possess strong technical problem\-solving skills.
- Experience with Eclipse API scripting (C\#) and medical image analysis/processing is preferred.
- Knowledge of Monte Carlo simulation for proton therapy is preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
