POSITION SUMMARY: The Operations Manager is responsible for the daily planning, directing and coordinating of the organization’s programs by optimizing the performance, productivity and efficiency of the Road Crew team while ensuring timely and accurate reporting of the team’s activities. This is a supervisory position that reports directly to the Executive Director and requires skills that include planning, implementation, completion and on\-going monitoring of the organization’s programs and activities by effectively supervising a team of Road Crew and the Office Coordinator. The Operations Manager assists the Executive Director in providing the organization with comprehensive administrative support to ensure the smooth functioning of operations, record keeping, research support, and facilities management. The ideal candidate for this role is detail\-oriented, excels at multitasking, and possess communication skills which allows for a collaborative work style. Previous experience in office management is highly preferred, however, comparable and applicable experience will be considered. Potential exists for this role to convert to salaried full\-time upon satisfactory performance and availability of funds.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Directly responsible for the successful completion of Project Assistants/Road Crew’s objectives/responsibilities as related to the following programs and events for the islands of Maui, Molokai, Lanai and Kahoolawe:*
- Beautification projects, community cleanups and recycling/education events
- Hot Spot Dump Site Removal, Solid Waste, and Used Motor Oil programs
- maintenance of CWD/MMN buildings, grounds, and surrounding landscapes
- Manage all aspects of the Road Crew duties, from assigning work schedules and projects to assuring the completion of each task on a daily basis.
- Participate in all aspects of Road Crew responsibilities as necessary to meet program goals and objectives.
- Periodically travels to rural areas of Maui and neighbor islands (Molokai, Lanai and Kahoolawe) with overnight stays (up to 4 days) to supervise clean\-up and collection events.
- Supervise volunteers and community service workers when present at select cleanup and recycling events.
- Ensure the timely and accurate completion of all required field data documentation/paperwork by the Office Coordinator and Road Crew associated with assigned project or activity (e.g. Action Request Forms (ARFs), Coordinator Reports, Vehicle Maintenance, Mileage logs, etc.)
- Provide regular updates of tasks, schedules and timetables of all projects to the Executive Director.
- Maintain complete and accurate records of organization’s vehicles and tools/equipment, including maintenance history and inventory lists.
- Research, attend, and implement training opportunities for Operations Department staff (Hazardous Materials Training, OSHA Compliance, etc.)
- Provide input during the budget process as to the financial needs of the Operations Department.
- Perform and complete all other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
- Education: The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an Accredited College or University, or the equivalent in work experience (or a combination thereof).
- Experience: Three (3\) years supervisory work experience in general construction and labor (or a related field) which involved the operation and safe use of hand and power tools as well as medium to heavy equipment. Experience working with a non\-profit organization highly desired.

- Certification: First Aid/CPR and OSHA safety training (must complete within one year of employment)
- Licensure: Valid Type 3 Hawaii State Driver’s license with a clean traffic abstract.
- Frequently required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
- Ability and experience to drive a large vehicle (often in remote rural areas of Maui and neighbor islands).
- Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
- Occasionally exposed to inclement weather conditions, as the position includes both indoor and outdoor duties.
- Outdoor environment often presents dirty and dusty working conditions
- Frequently required to handle improperly discarded appliances, tires, trash and/or green waste requiring proper disposal as well as miscellaneous solid waste and some hazardous materials (e.g. used motor oil, vehicle batteries)
