Job Summary
The Civil Engineering Department and the Water Engineering Research Center (WERC) in College of Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington invite applications for a tenure\-track Assistant Professor in water resources engineering with an emphasis on modeling\-based hydro informatics, flood forecasting/early warning, urban flooding, radar/satellite precipitation, Artificial Intelligence, and resilient infrastructure systems. The successful candidate will be expected to lead externally funded research programs, secure sustainable research fundings, publish in high\-impact journals, teach undergraduate/graduate courses, mentor students, and contribute to the WERC.
The ideal candidate is expected to demonstrate a track record of advanced hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, integrating radar/satellite precipitation, and data\-driven methods to deliver actionable tools for flood resilience—such as cloud\-based flood forecasting, inundation mapping, and operational early warning systems—and will expand these capabilities through interdisciplinary research in remote sensing, GIS/GeoAI, UAV applications, and resilient infrastructure planning. The candidate with experience translating cutting\-edge research (e.g., AI) into operational decision\-support systems for agencies and communities (e.g., flood warning and alert platforms) is preferred and is expected to build collaborations across academia, governments, and industry.
The WERC is the newly established research center focusing on developing innovative water technologies and practical strategies that drive economic growth and sustainable development. The WERC is dedicated to addressing complex challenges in water resources. As a hydro\-focused center, the WERC conducts vital projects that turn sciences and engineering into actionable solutions. By integrating machine learning, sensing technologies, and predictive modeling, the WERC delivers innovative and data\-driven solutions for flooding, stormwater, water supply, quality, and environmental resilience for the State of Texas and beyond. Recognized by the state legislators and across the nation, the WERC is one of the pioneering research thrusts that UTA invested in recent years.
In accordance with USCIS regulations, successful applicants must be legally able to accept work in the United States. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.
