Deep Roots Craftsmen, a historic preservation contractor based in Fort Collins, Colorado, is looking for a project engineer or assistant project manager to join our team. The specifics of the job description will be partly based on the level of experience of the candidate. Thanks in large part to one of the strongest grant programs in the country, preservation continues to thrive in Colorado. Most of our projects are partly state\-funded, leading to an interesting and always varying range of non\-profit clients and project sites. Our projects have ranged from historic barns, to school houses, to churches to museum spaces and additions/ renovations on private homes. Each job is unique in its elements but consistent in their adherence to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards.
Duties, and Responsibilities:
As Project Engineer or Assistant Project Manager, you will work closely with a Project Manager on our team to support on specific projects. This work will entail a mix of site and remote administrative duties. Some of these duties will overlap with what might more commonly be included in an Assistant Superintendent role, due to the nature of some of our Project Managers functioning in a hybrid PM/ Superintendent role. The intention of the position would be a first step towards a future progression into either a Superintendent or Project Manager role.
Common tasks on select projects would include:
- Gather and process project product submittals
- Function as team’s site representative, assisting to funnel subcontractor questions and concerns to Project Manager
- Assist Project Manager in conducting daily quality and safety job walks
- Assist with Project Close\-out manuals
- Occasionally attend project meetings
- Take daily photos on site of progress
- Assist with generation of weekly reports for project including weekly photos
- Coordinate or execute occasional material deliveries
- Track and report on material procurement
- Work with Project Manager to flag and track project risks on site
- Assist with fleshing out and tracking assignment lists for Project Management team
- Maintain detailed records of project progress, change orders, and site inspections to support effective project management.
- Review and interpret blueprints, schematics, and contracts to facilitate accurate project execution.
- Work with Project Managers to develop and edit project schedules, utilizing JobTread software
- Distribute schedules to project stakeholders on a weekly or bi\-weekly basis.
- Assist office staff with obtaining subcontractors paperwork etc.
- Potentially assist with pursuing Accounts Receivables
- Assist with data entry to continue to further build out company software (JobTread)
- Potential to assist with estimating process through sourcing of subcontractor pricing
- Potential assistance with marketing and photo management
- First and foremost a positive attitude and interest to learn every day
- Construction management degree, or relevant work experience in construction management is strongly preferred
- Experience with project management software is a plus
- Experience using JobTread software is a large plus
- Ability to read and understand blueprints
- Interest and ability in working well with others
- Ability and interest to travel to remote job sites, sometimes traveling for a week at a time, staying in company\-provided housing on the road
- Ability to instruct others is a plus
- Demonstrate strong communication skills needed between project manager and other team members
- Valid driver’s license and interest/ ability to drive company carpool vehicle to jobsites
- Ability to lift over 50 pounds and have general physical well\-being to sustain 40 hour work weeks of challenging hands\-on work
- Familiarity with historic projects abiding by the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards is a plus
- Carpentry experience is a plus
- OSHA safety training and/or familiarity is a plus
- Pay will be commensurate upon experience, ranging from $32\-39 an hour
- Daily per diem for overnight stays
