POSITION DETAILS

Reporting to the Chair of the Sociology Department in the School of Natural and Social Sciences and working together with the Associate Provost for Experiential Learning and Executive Director for Industry Partnerships, the Integrated Academic Advisor for Sociology will create career pathways and expand employment opportunities for students in New York’s emerging

industries. Together with the Industry Employment Specialist for Sociology, the Integrated Academic Advisor will support a cohort of undergraduate students, connecting them with relevant internship or full\-time opportunities in industries appropriate for a Sociology graduate.

In addition to the CUNY title overview, the Integrated Academic Advisor will have the following responsibilities, including but

not limited to:

  • Provide group\-based and individualized (1:1\) support to help students identify career goals, align academic coursework, and pursue goal\-oriented career opportunities.
  • Foster and strengthen the Sociology cohort’s identity as a supportive peer network that encourages collaboration and shared learning.
  • Guide students in planning for internships, experiential learning, and other opportunities that build professional skills and workplace exposure.
  • Assess students’ professional development, readiness, and progress at multiple points throughout their participation in the cohort.
  • Collaborate with CUNY Beyond leadership, other integrated advisors, and Lehman College academic departments to share employer insights that may inform curricula and student pathways.
  • Participate in Lehman’s CUNY Beyond initiative, including attending meetings, engaging in CUNY\-wide professional development, and meeting required reporting deadlines.
  • Identify barriers to student success related to career goals and connect students to appropriate campus resources and support services.
  • Coordinate programs and activities that expand student exposure to career options and strengthen job\-seeking and career readiness skills.
  • Develop and manage the Sociology cohort’s program portfolio, including program structure, assessments, advising strategies, and referral activities.
  • Accurately enter, track, analyze, and report program data and outcomes using systems such as Power BI, SharePoint, Microsoft Dynamics, and the Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, and evaluate virtual events using Zoom or similar platforms.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Coursework or training related to adult development, including career development
  • Experience in academic advisement or career coaching
  • Ability to facilitate job\-related services, workshops and skills trainings
  • Understanding of academic programs, majors, and methods to assure students’ successful progress
  • Understanding the needs and practices of employers in recruitment and selection
  • Command of Microsoft Suite and Zoom
  • Comfort with technology to track programs and projects.

    Administers an academic advising center or unit.

  • Collaborates with other academic and administrative offices to maintain a comprehensive academic advisement program
  • Ensures students are provided with consistent, accurate, and prompt advising services, coordinating with academic departments
  • Works with students to resolve academic issues, providing information and/or referral
  • Develops orientation programs to engage and retain students and instructs students, faculty and staff on use of advising technologies
  • Conducts assessments to strengthen advisement programs
  • Organizes and facilitates training for faculty advisors
  • Develops print and online communication materials
  • May supervise office operations and budget
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$86,741

CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will increase by approximately 9\.54% with an additional increase of 3\.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC\-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
