    BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY

    Performs complex (journey\-level) work in building maintenance repair and electrical equipment and circuits. Installs, replaces and maintains electrical systems, apparatus, components of machinery and equipment. Reports to the Civil Engineer Maintenance Supervisor and works under general supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

    Work Hours: Tuesday – Friday, 10\-hour days, 40 hours/week

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure all electrical systems meet safety codes and support the integrity of secure environments, including data centers, communication hubs, and operational facilities.
  • Implement protective measures such as surge protection, grounding, and secure conduit routing to prevent unauthorized access or system compromise.
  • Collaborate with IT, cybersecurity, and facilities teams to align electrical infrastructure with agency\-wide security frameworks (e.g., NIST, NFPA 70E).
  • Document electrical configurations, service logs, and compliance activities in accordance with TMD policy.
  • Install and repairs electrical systems, apparatus, circuits and electrical components of machinery and equipment.
  • Inspect, test and troubleshoot electrical equipment, lighting and power circuits.
  • Isolate defects in wiring, circuit breakers, fuses, switches, sockets and other elements.
  • Replace faulty circuit breakers, fuses, switches, sockets and other elements of electrical systems.
  • Mount motors, transformers and lighting fixtures into position and complete circuits.
  • Repair magnetic starters and remote start\-stop stations.
  • Operate and maintain high\- and low\-voltage switches.
  • Install rigid, thin wall and flexible conduit.
  • Wire circuits and clean and tighten low voltage switch gears.
  • Plan the layout of electrical wiring to ensure compliance with specifications and electrical codes.
  • Assist in the maintenance and renovation of electrical service.
  • Attend work regularly and observes approved work hours in accordance with agency state employee policies \& procedures handbook.
  • May be required to perform duty in support of national emergencies, disasters, and other missions, to include evenings, holidays, and weekends.
  • Perform related work as assigned.
  • Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION:

  • Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent (GED) is required.
  • PREFERRED EDUCATION:

  • Vocational or special training in an electrical trade is preferred.
  • EXPERIENCE:

  • One (1\) year of full\-time experience in residential/industrial electrical maintenance is required.
  • Experience in operating, maintaining and repairing electrical equipment is required.
  • Experience using Microsoft Outlook or other electronic email system is required.
  • REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE:

  • A licensed apprentice electrician is required.
  • Electrician certification and/or training are preferred.
  • Journeyman's certification is preferred.
  • A valid driver's license is required. \The ability to obtain a Texas Driver’s License will be required within the first 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident. A satisfactory driving record is required for operating state or personal vehicles to conduct agency business.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

    * Background Investigation. Selected candidate must pass an initial criminal history check and review of foreign adversary connections that might prevent them from being able to maintain the security or integrity and periodic reviews throughout employment.

  • In accordance with Executive Order GA\-48, Texas Military Department (TMD) employees are prohibited from current employment or ongoing business relationships with any entity identified on the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Entity List (15 C.F.R. 791\.4\) or any governmental entity or political apparatus of a country listed therein.
  • The selected candidate must pass federal security background investigation. The process includes a National Agency Check and Inquiry (NACI) and fingerprinting. New employees must complete and sign the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Form SF85\. Completed forms are submitted to the OPM for background investigations.
  • * Eligibility to work in the U.S. The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires all new employees to present proof of eligibility to work in the United States within three (3\) days of being hired. The Texas Military Department participates in E\-Verify and will provide the Social Security Administration (SSA) and, if necessary, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), with information from each new employee's Form I\-9 to confirm work authorization. All offers of employment are contingent upon the candidate having and maintaining legal authorization to work in the United States. Failure to present such authorization within the time specified by the U.S. Department of Labor will result in the offer being rescinded.

  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    Knowledge of:

  • applicable local, state and federal ordinances and laws;
  • National Electrical Code (NEC);
  • general principles and theory of electricity; and
  • Air Force Occupational Safety and Health (AFOSH) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety regulations.
  • Skill in:

  • communicating effectively both orally and in writing;
  • operating hand tools and specialty equipment; and
  • using Microsoft Office Suite to include Outlook, Word, Excel and Access.
  • Ability to:

  • maintain the security and integrity of the Texas Military Department Infrastructure;
  • interpret policies, procedures and regulations;
  • prepare complex and concise reports within required timeline;
  • make maintenance or electrical repairs;
  • diagnose malfunctioning units;
  • maintain records;
  • communicate effectively to small groups;
  • work in a team environment;
  • establish effective working relationship; and
  • work in a military environment.

PHYSICAL/WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed both inside and outside. When inside, incumbent is exposed to normal office temperatures and noise. When outside, incumbent will be required to work and exposed to seasonal inclement weather. Work typically involves standing, walking, and working with hand and power tools for extended periods of time. May lift, carry, move, and/or set up equipment and materials that weigh up to 40 pounds. Must be able to lift carry 50 lbs of field gear and able to perform fieldwork that sometimes involves walking long distances and exposure to potential hazards (heat, rain, insects, snakes, etc.).
