Position Summary
The School of Nursing at UT Health San Antonio seeks a full\-time Open Rank Research Faculty (Non\-Tenure) member who will also serve as the Assistant Director of Impact and Innovation, supporting and advancing the school’s research mission. The position offers the opportunity to transition to a tenure\-track appointment contingent upon demonstrated performance and alignment with established criteria. This faculty member will contribute to the development, coordination, and dissemination of faculty scholarship and externally funded research initiatives. The position focuses on strengthening faculty research productivity, enhancing grant competitiveness, and facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration.
The successful candidate will work closely with faculty investigators, research administration, and institutional partners to promote scholarly output and secure external funding success.
Primary Responsibilities
1\. Research and Scholarship
- Develop and sustain an independent, externally funded research program
- Design, conduct, and oversee high\-quality, ethical research studies
- Disseminate findings through peer\-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and reports
- Contribute to advancing knowledge and aligning research with institutional priorities
- Identify funding opportunities and lead or contribute to grant applications
- Secure external funding from federal, foundation, or industry sources
- Manage awarded grants, including budgets, timelines, and reporting requirements
- Support faculty in developing competitive proposals, including identifying funding opportunities, providing consultation on research design and proposal strategy, and facilitating grant/manuscript writing groups and peer review
- Provide structured feedback on scholarly products and assist in translating research, practice innovations, and program outcomes into fundable and publishable work
- Coordinate research development initiatives and training (e.g., grant writing, mentoring, dissemination, and scholarly communication) to build faculty capacity and productivity
- Serve as a liaison with ONRS and assist faculty in navigating research administration, submission processes, and compliance requirements
- Mentor students and trainees (senior faculty also mentors junior faculty) and foster interdisciplinary and community\-engaged collaborations
- Participate in committees and peer review, as appropriate
- Contribute to teaching, institutional service, and professional activities, as appropriate
- Ensure adherence to ethical and regulatory standards and promote responsible conduct of research
- Translate research into practice, policy, and community impact
- Doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, or equivalent) from an accredited program in nursing, public health, sociology, psychology, social work, or a related field
- Evidence of research development and scholarly activity, commensurate with rank
- Demonstrated experience in grant writing, research project management, or faculty research support
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide constructive feedback on scientific writing
- Experience supporting collaborative research, mentoring trainees, or working within interdisciplinary teams
- Research focus on cancer, aging, brain health, or related areas aligned with institutional priorities
- Record of external funding and peer\-reviewed publications, commensurate with rank
- Experience leading or coordinating grant development programs, faculty writing groups, or peer review initiatives
- Familiarity with academic research administration processes (e.g., proposal development, submission, compliance)
- Experience developing or delivering training/workshops in grant writing, research methods, or scholarly communication

The School of Nursing is at the forefront of academic nursing, leading excellence through innovative teaching, quality research, compassionate care, and community service in South Texas and beyond. #### Benefits Overview
UT Health San Antonio offers an excellent benefits package for its employees. Employees who work at least 20 hours a week, with an appointment of at least 4\.5 months, are eligible for benefits.
Medical\- UT SELECT Medical insurance is offered free for fulltime employees and administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. Family members can be added to the plan through payroll deduction. Employees and their dependents can also receive discounted copays and coinsurance when using UT Health Physicians, a network of 800 premier physicians including more than 100 specialists. Time Off\- A generous leave program offers multiple paid leave options:
Front\-loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.
Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken.
Paid Family Leave: Up to 240 hours (6 weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after 6 months of consecutive employment.
Holidays: 12 set paid holidays each fiscal year.
