  • The Police Equipment Technician is responsible for assisting in the management of technical areas of Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department to include the department’s body\-worn camera program, audio/visual equipment, and other safety equipment for the department’s National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) program.Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall maintenance of Police equipment such as but not limited to; drones, fleet vehicles, tasers, body worn camera systems, signal sidearm devices, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain inventory of Police equipment such as but not limited to drones, fleet vehicles, tasers, body worn camera systems, signal sidearm devices, and personal protective equipment (PPE), and support equipment.
  • Coordinate storage and inventory in bulk items in warehouse.
  • Provide user support, documentation, training, and troubleshooting assistance.
  • Ensure automation of the retention schedule with the remote digital storage system.
  • Manage multiple software systems to maintain records and compile information for internal investigations.
  • Coordinate resources and serve as a liaison with all internal and external vendors relating to systems.
  • Provide training support, ensures training location, and required training software/materials are operational.
  • Transport equipment to site locations.
  • Prepare reports to document results to utilize in court testimony if necessary.
  • Maintain classroom schedule and classroom technology is operational.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to support departmental operations.
  • Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED with one (1\) year of relevant experience.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Class “C” driver’s license.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of modern methods, concepts, practices, and principles related to logistics and inventory management.
  • Knowledge of inventory databases and Salamander system
  • Ability to evaluate the best method of research and then exercising appropriate judgment in establishing priorities and resolving complex matters.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative and professional relationships with employees and all levels of management to include representatives from other departments, organizations, and vendors.
  • Effectively communicate ideas, to include the preparation of reports and logs.
  • Listen and understand information and ideas being presented verbally and in writing.
  • Handle a variety of customer service issues with tact and diplomacy and in a confidential manner.
  • Establish and implement effective administrative programs and procedures.
  • Plan and organize daily work routine.
  • Establishes priorities for the completion of work in accordance with sound time\-management methodology.
  • ADA and Other Requirements:

    Positions in this class typically require grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.Physical Requirements:

  • Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, climbing, or walking for extended periods of time
  • Light to moderate lifting and carrying; some crouching, stooping, squatting, crawling, reaching, pushing, and pulling when performing tasks
  • Ability to see, hear, and communicate information effectively
  • Sensory Requirements:

  • Concentrated and attentive use of one or more senses (visual, audio, and other sensory modalities) for proofreading, data entry, tabulating data.
  • Ability to operate in an environment with frequent interruptions from people and or noises, which in return could result in some level of stress, fatigue, or strain.
  • Comprehend written information in work\-related documents.
  • Ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech.
  • Working Conditions:

    Indoor and/or outdoor environments may include noise, work with computers, files and phones. May be exposed to extreme heat and/or cold, humidity, and different weather conditions.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate’s written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.

    Final candidates must pass a pre\-employment drug\-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
