Summary of Purpose

  • Performs complex clerical and technical duties in support of the functions of the libraries. The employee is expected to work in a multi\-cultural, diverse working environment.

  • This description is intended to indicate the types of duties and responsibilities requested of the employee assigned this title. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the duties and responsibilities that may be required:

  • Searches, inputs, and updates online records including bibliographic, patron, reserve and interlibrary loan records following a standard format; assists with library services platform record maintenance.
  • Verifies interlibrary loan requests and locates local holding libraries; maintains accurate interlibrary loan reports, files, and statistics on interlibrary loans.
  • Assists library faculty, as needed, in answering library user questions including complaints or concerns, making appropriate referrals, and assuming responsibility for operation of the public rooms.
  • Maintains course reserves and periodical holdings information in the library services platform.
  • Prepares library materials for shelving and circulation; organizes and conducts inventory projects; resolves shelving conflicts and errors; maintains correct shelving order for library materials.
  • Provides clerical support for libraries including ordering supplies, reporting and tracking equipment problems, and scheduling and billing for library services.
  • Prepares computerized and manual reports (e.g., Alma Analytics, public service statistics) for the purpose of providing documentation and information to others.
  • Trains and directs college student personnel with appropriate approval.
  • Performs related tasks, as assigned.
  • Ability to work additional hours, as needed.
  • Campus:

  • Provides circulation, interlibrary loan, and reserve desk services to on\-campus and remote users; negotiates fines, collects money, and transfers funds to campus business office; reviews policies and serves as first\-line troubleshooter for related patron problems; provides appropriate referrals.
  • Assists patrons in locating library materials; provides assistance with use of systems and equipment; coordinates search process for missing library materials.
  • Assists librarian with bibliographies, instructional materials, and background collection development activities.
  • Processes and maintains the government documents depository collection from the Federal Depository Library Program by dating, affixing document numbers, shelving, updating, and discarding records in the online library catalog.
  • Maintains loose\-leaf services; collects, prepares, and processes library materials for the bindery; reviews damaged library materials and handles basic repairs.
  • Creates tutorials and documents procedures for the ILS and related applications; conducts workshops, as needed.
  • Assists with tracking and resolution of problems/issues related to automated library systems and library services platform.
  • Attends meetings, in\-service training, workshops, etc., as required, for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Library Systems:

  • Performs copy cataloging in all formats using national and local standards and practices; prepare materials for physical processing.
  • Organizes and oversees library services platform projects within the department and across the libraries.
  • Handles College’s contributions to collaborative lists of serial holdings; collects, inputs, and updates data for update serial lists for the campus libraries.
  • Assists in configuring and maintaining library services platform to enable data exchange.
  • Serves as a resource in answering inquiries on bibliographic and holding records.
  • Minimum Education and Experience

EDUCATION: An earned Associate’s degree or higher in Library Science.

\-OR\-

Any Associate degree or higher with 16 college credit hours in Library Science.

\-AND\-

EXPERIENCE: Two (2\) years of experience in a library setting with demonstrated customer service experience.
