The Department of Natural Resources, Division of Parks \& Outdoor Recreation, is recruiting for a Park Technician 1 in Juneau. This position is open to Alaska Residents only.

Please check our residency definition to determine if you qualify. What You Will Be Doing:

    • Maintain and improve park facilities and trails by performing routine repairs, building and grounds maintenance, vegetation clearing, inspections, and janitorial services to ensure safe, clean, and functional recreation areas.
    • Lead and facilitate the Alaska Conservation Corps and Volunteers In Parks programs, including recruitment, hiring, training, and assigning daily tasks.
    • Provide visitor services, educational outreach, and interpretive programming to park visitors and the local community.
    • Operate and care for state equipment, including trucks, ATVs, boats, snowmachines, and power tools.
    • Perform administrative tasks that support field operations, including grant writing, timekeeping, purchasing, filing, and report writing.

      This position is based at Eagle Beach State Recreation Area in Juneau, AK, surrounded by coastal rainforest, mountains, and waterfront park units. Daily work takes place outdoors in a field\-based setting, involving hands\-on maintenance, trail work, visitor interaction, and operation of park equipment in all weather conditions. Juneau offers a tight\-knit community with access to world\-class recreation, a strong appreciation for public lands, and the amenities of Alaska’s capital city while retaining a small\-town feel. We are looking for a candidate who possesses the following position\-specific competencies.

    • Parks and Recreation Management: Knowledge of the principles, practices, and theories of parks and recreation management related to preserving, enhancing, maintaining, and protecting natural, historical, and cultural resources within park lands while considering the safety and welfare of park visitors.
    • Carpentry/Woodworking: Knowledge of materials, methods, and the appropriate tools to construct, install, finish, or repair wooden objects or structures.

      Any combination of preparatory post\-secondary education and/or experience in the operations of natural resource management or outdoor recreation providing assistance, information, and services to customers, tourists, or the general public that included some clerical/administrative/technical tasks; and/or leading, instructing, individuals in outdoors adventure activities.

      Definitions:

      “Competencies” means a combination of interrelated knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors that enable a person to act effectively in a job or situation.

      “Typically gained by” means the prevalent, usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job.

      “Training” and “education” in this guidance are synonyms for the process of acquiring knowledge and skills through instruction. It includes instruction through formal and informal methods (such as classroom, on\-line, self\-study, and on\-the\-job), from accredited and unaccredited sources, and long\-duration (such as a post\-secondary degree) and short\-duration (such as a seminar) programs.
