Job Summary:
The Operations Associate – Trading serves as the critical interface between the trading desk and the firm's advisor network. This role protects the trading team's focus and execution capacity by owning advisor communications, managing post\-trade workflows, and ensuring seamless resolution of operational inquiries. As part of a trading infrastructure supporting over $50 billion in client assets, this individual plays a key role in maintaining the quality and integrity of our trading operations.
This position reports to the Director of Trading and works in close collaboration with the Head of Trading, four senior traders, and advisor\-facing teams across the firm.
Location: New Orleans candidates preferred, but remote candidates will be considered as well.
Responsibilities:
Advisor \& Client Communication
- Serve as the primary point of contact for advisor inquiries related to trade execution, order status, and account\-level activity — primary point of contact for advisors for trading service\-related items during market hours.
- Triage and respond to inbound trading\-related questions from advisors, escalating to the appropriate trader, department, or director when warranted.
- Develop and maintain standardized communication workflows for common inquiry types, ensuring timely and consistent responses across the advisor network.
- Proactively communicate trade\-related updates, delays, or exceptions to advisors and internal stakeholders as needed.
- Educate advisors on trading processes, platform capabilities, and firm policies related to order entry, model implementation, and trade restrictions.
- Create and maintain reference materials, FAQs, and process guides to reduce repetitive inquiries and empower advisors to self\-serve on routine questions.
- Support onboarding of new advisors with trading\-specific orientation and documentation.
- Manage post\-model implementation reconciliation workflows, ensuring account holdings align with target model allocations following trade completion.
- Identify, document, and track discrepancies or breaks between executed trades and expected model outputs.
- Coordinate with custodians, the trading desk, and back\-office systems — including Orion, Salesforce, Nexus, and portfolio management platforms — to resolve post\-trade breaks in a timely manner.
- Maintain detailed records of reconciliation outcomes and flag recurring issues for process improvement review.
- Own the firm's trading error log — capturing, categorizing, and maintaining a complete record of trade errors, corrections, and resolution timelines.
- Coordinate error resolution with traders, compliance, and operations teams in accordance with firm policy and regulatory requirements.
- Produce regular error bucket reports for the Director of Trading, identifying trends and patterns that may indicate systemic issues.
- Support development of corrective action plans and process improvements to reduce error frequency over time.
- Own open item tracking for the trading team — maintaining follow\-up queues, coordinating with internal teams, and ensuring commitments are closed on time.
- Assist with special projects, technology implementations, and process improvement initiatives as directed by trading leadership.
- Support automation and data integration efforts, including coordination with technology and AI teams on workflows involving Orion, Salesforce, and back\-office systems.
- Prepare reports, summaries, and presentations for the Director of Trading as needed.
- 3–7 years of experience in trading operations, wealth management operations, or a related financial services role.
- Solid understanding of securities markets, trade lifecycle, and portfolio management concepts.
- Experience working in an RIA, broker\-dealer, or custodial environment.
- Proficiency with portfolio accounting or trading platforms (e.g., Orion, Envestnet, Tamarac, Schwab Advisor Center, or similar).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex operational topics for an advisor audience.
- High attention to detail and comfort managing multiple open items in a fast\-paced environment.
- Experience with CRM systems, particularly Salesforce, in a financial services context.
- Familiarity with model\-based portfolio management and rebalancing workflows.
- Exposure to trading error resolution processes and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Series 65 or Series 7 license is preferred.
- Interest in technology and process automation as applied to trading and operations workflows.
