The Fremont County Circuit Court seeks to hire a Deputy Clerk to assist with the administration of operations and procedures of the Circuit Court. As a team leader, this position prepares and processes court documents, performs judicial procedures, and works with the court case management system as well as assists with the accounting and financial records of the court. Work is performed under the supervision of the Chief Clerk.

The Fremont County Circuit Court presides over misdemeanor, small claims, civil forcible entry and detainer, and extradition cases. It also issues protection orders. The Court has locations in Riverton and Lander. This position is primarily located in Lander with the expectation that the Deputy Clerk will work one day per week at the Riverton location. This position does not directly supervise employees however; the position will provide training, distribute work, and review the work of others as well as provide direction in the absence of the Chief Clerk. This position also assists with difficult customer service situations. Essential functions of this position include the following:
- Plan, organize, and coordinate the work of assigned employees.
- Resolve problems and questions regarding work methods and processes presented by co\-workers. Assist with escalated situations in person or on the phone.
- Provide training to clerks on Circuit Court operations. Reviews the work of other clerks to assist with training and ensure procedures are being followed.
- Prepare end\-of\-day report and balance daily receipts to report. Prepare deposits and ensure that they are taken to the bank daily. Disburse monies according to established procedures. Assists in end\-of\-month procedures as requested.
- Review receipting and disbursements of fines, fees, forfeitures, garnishments, and civil judgments to ensure correct reporting.
- Supervise other related accounting and financial activities as directed by the Chief Clerk conforming with the Supreme Court internal auditors’ requirements.
- Perform follow\-up work after court sessions; distribute judicial orders; post information generated during court sessions to case files; prepare and route copies, certified, if necessary, and maintain payment schedules.
- Schedule and track deadlines to move cases forward and meet procedural requirements.
- Issue jury summons; maintain list and process payments to jurors; send copies of questionnaires to appropriate counsel.
- Provide customer service with a high volume of pro se litigants by providing general procedural information without giving legal advice either in person or on the phone.
- Use the case management system to track cases as follows: 1\) Open cases – determine case type, cause of action, and assess and receipt filing fee if required. 2\) Docket cases – review documents and determine appropriate event codes, enter data, scan documents, and link related scanned images. 3\) Case dispositions – determine and enter closing events, disposition type and judgement details.
- Oversee and maintain the court records and the flow of work processed through court in a timely and effective manner.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Chief Clerk or Circuit Court Judges.

- Requires a High school diploma or equivalent with at least three (3\) years’ work experience as a court clerk, legal assistant, executive assistant, or paralegal.
- Preference may be given to applicants who meet the requirements and have experience in State of Wyoming court systems including state, county, or municipal courts.
- Review the work of others; apply general management principles to specific organizational and operational problems; communicate effectively (verbally and in writing); establish and maintain effective working relationships with co\-workers, representatives of various agencies and members of the public.
