Job Overview
The Assistant Underwriter will serve as an individual contributor, reporting to the VP of Commercial Auto and supporting MOTER’s Insurance Operations team within our wholesale Commercial Auto Managing General Agency (MGA) division. This underwriting role is essential for ensuring smooth and efficient processing of our commercial auto policies, including new business and renewals. Key responsibilities will include initial policy setup, account coordination, data collection, data entry, analysis, follow\-up on any required or missing underwriting documentation, and various other administrative tasks.
Essential Functions
- Assists the underwriting team with reviewing new business submissions, generating insurance quotes, reviewing, quoting, and issuing policy renewals, and processing mid\-term policy changes.
- Ensures that all policy documentation is accurate and complete, including endorsements, renewals, and cancellations.
- Collaborates closely with underwriters and other team members to ensure smooth processing of policies and adherence to MOTER’s established underwriting guidelines.
- Utilizes Guidewire’s Policy Center platform to input data, manage applications, and document and track all underwriting activities.
- Assists in responding to internal and external inquiries regarding policy details, coverage options, and claims information.
- Maintains accurate records of all underwriting activities and client communications in accordance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
- Develops and maintains superior relationships with underwriters, producers, brokers, insurance carrier partners, and reinsurers.
- Works closely with MOTER’s Finance team to resolve any issues related to billing on accounts.
- Secures and produces information for special reports and projects, as requested by members of the Insurance Operations team.
- Performs data entry, clerical/administrative work, and other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience) in Business, Finance, Insurance, Risk Management, or related fields desired.
- 2\+ years of P\&C Insurance industry experience \- with a focus on commercial auto underwriting or related areas.
- A Property \& Casualty (P\&C) agent license is beneficial but not required.
- General understanding of insurance terminology and concepts, particularly as they relate to commercial auto and public/business vehicle policies.
- Familiarity with Guidewire or other insurance platforms preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.) required.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to effectively handle multiple assignments, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a dynamic, results\-oriented environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members, clients, and brokers.
- High work ethic, self\-motivation, and initiative.
- Good judgment, high integrity, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a larger team.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
