The candidate must possess a current state professional license (RN). Register on the Bureau of Professional Occupational Affairs (BPOA) under the Pennsylvania Licensing System (PALS) and have a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Long term care experience required, and knowledge of nursing home regulations is desired. Three (3\) years’ experience working as a supervisor or in a management capacity in a long\-term care facility or hospital. Possess leadership ability, and the ability to communicate with and get along with staff members, residents, resident families, and members of outside regulatory agencies. Understanding of the Catholic Church and its teachings.
Job Functions:
Overall responsibility for all aspects of resident care and management of the Nursing Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations. Assures the department's compliance with operating policies and procedures, activities and provision of care within the Nursing Department.
- Supervisory responsibility for RNs, LPNs CNAs and Unit Coordinator.
- Manage staff recruitment, retention, schedule and performance management.
- Oversight of staff training and development with Human Resource Manager.
- Ensure nursing personnel receive appropriate in\-servicing, education and competencies to meet regulatory and staff needs.
- Guarantee adequate staffing is maintained to meet the needs of each resident.
- Participate in the Quality Improvement committee, Safety committee, Activities committee, as well as other sub committees.
- Maintain departmental budgets in compliance with established parameters.
- Conduct scheduled department meetings.
- Develop, implement and revise policies and procedures pertaining to all aspects of nursing service objectives.
- Assure ancillary services, such as dietary, activities, and rehabilitation, are provided to meet the medical and psychosocial needs of the residents.
- Participate in resident assessments and admissions as well as on\-site medical director and podiatry visits.
- Current knowledge of medication uses and side\-effects.
- Conduct ongoing chart audits to ensure that documentation is current, appropriate, reliable, and accurately reflects the present condition of the resident.
- Participate in regulatory inspections as indicated.
- Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Administrator concerning the ongoing operation of the Nursing Department as necessary.
- Review Priests in community with Administrator and Community nurse, screen for appropriate admissions.
- Ensure that Vicar for Infirmed and Retired Priests is aware of medical status of priests.
- Work with clergy, Administrator and community nurse to accept admissions to VSJ and determine room assignments.
- Determine appropriateness of resident admission (go to hospital, home/rectory, hospice care, other facilities, etc.)
- Ensure the order of flu vaccines for timely annual clinics.
- Function as the Employee Health Nurse, along with staff RN assistance, administering tuberculin tests to employees and maintaining records; monitors and administers flu vaccine to all staff.
- Assume responsibilities/functions of the Administrator in her absence.
- Administrative on call for medical emergencies and in place of Administrator when on leave.
- Essential nursing skills include vital signs, assessment, medication administration, wound care, infection control, medical terminology, critical thinking, pre\- and post\-op instruction.
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday. Must be able to lift a minimum of twenty (20\) pounds
- Works in a well\-lighted and ventilated office area (s) as well as throughout the nursing services areas (i.e. medication rooms, nurses' station, utility rooms, resident room, etc.)
- Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours.
- Subject to frequent interruptions.
- Communicates with medical staff, nursing personnel, resident's family/ representative, support/ancillary personnel, therapists, and personnel from government/regulatory agencies under all conditions and circumstances.
- 3 years' experience in long\-term care.
- Must possess an RN license.
- Must be over 18 years of age.
- Must have been licensed in the BPOA PA Licensing System.
- CPR/AED certification required.
