  • The Assistant Professor of Nutrition is a tenure\-track faculty position within the Department of Nutrition, Hospitality \& Human Services. This role is responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in nutrition across multiple modalities, contributing to curriculum development, and supporting program accreditation requirements. The faculty member is expected to maintain an active research and scholarly agenda, including mentoring student research, disseminating findings, and pursuing external funding. In addition, the position provides academic advising and mentorship to students, contributes to program and departmental initiatives, and engages in service at the department, college, university, and professional levels.

    Essential Job Functions

  • ---------------------------
  • Teaching:+ Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in nutrition in all modalities.

    + Develop and revise online courses using the Quality Matters review process and update on\-campus courses using best teaching practices for the discipline.

    + Maintain professional certifications, if applicable.

    + Develop, implement, and monitor student performance outcomes through ongoing assessment.

    + Hold regular office hours and maintain campus presence to ensure accessibility and engagement with students.

    Scholarly \& Creative Activities:+ Maintain an active research agenda with dissemination of findings in through scholarly publications and presentations.

    + Collaborate with faculty in research, outreach, and pursuit of external funding opportunities.

    + Mentor undergraduate and graduate research projects.

    Service:+ Advise undergraduate students in the nutrition program.

    + Serve on Departmental, College, and University committees.

    + Provide service to the community and to the nutrition and dietetics profession.

    + Perform other departmental and program duties as assigned.

    + Collaborate with other departments and units across campus to strengthen interdisciplinary initiatives.

    + Engage in community outreach aligned with program and university goals.

    Minimum and Desired Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications:+ Doctoral Degree or ABD with expected graduation May 2026 in Nutrition from an accredited institution.

    + RDN credential required.

    + Strong interest and proven competence in research and scholarship.

    + Demonstrated ability or potential for high quality research and teaching are important.

    + Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills for working with various students, staff, faculty, and administration.

    + Commitment to creating and sustaining student support and success.

    + Active involvement in professional organizations within the field of specialty.

    + Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative and innovative environment.

    Desired Qualifications:+ Research experience with demonstrated scholarship via first\-authored publications

    + Teaching experience at the College or University level with experience in curriculum development and course design utilizing the Quality Matters process.

    + Experience with ACEND requirements in academic coursework.

    + Practical nutrition and dietetics experience as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.

Key Competencies:+ The ability to translate knowledge into essential practice skills for entry\-level nutritionists and registered dietitian nutritionists.

+ Provide instruction in nutrition courses across modalities (in\-person, hybrid, and online).

+ Develop/revise online applied nutrition courses utilizing the Quality Matters review process.

+ Participate in planning, review, and evaluation of bachelor’s and master’s programs, including certificates and concentrations.

+ Develop, implement, and monitor student performance outcomes through assessment.

+ Advise and mentor nutrition students.

+ Collaborate with other departments and units across campus.

+ Report curriculum and course issues to appropriate program coordinators; report all other issues to the Department Chair.

+ Serve on Departmental, College, and University committees as assigned.

Physical Requirements:+ Ability to articulate clearly in lectures and discussions.

+ Ability to stand or sit for extended periods while teaching.

+ Ability to move around classrooms and laboratories as needed.

Job Conditions:+ Deliver courses both face\-to\-face and online.

+ Work within department offices to support the department, college, and university mission focused on the success of both on\-campus and online students.
