STUDENTLOANANALYST
PUBLIC PROTECTION \& ADVOCACY BUREAU

The Attorney General’s Office is seeking to hire a Student Loan Analyst to work in the Attorney General’s Insurance \& Financial Services Division. The Division provides consumer assistance and enforces laws regarding insurance, investment, and lending, with a focus on postsecondary educational debt, including student loan servicing and debt collection.
Primary Duties: The Student Loan Analyst supports investigations and litigations, with a special focus on federal and private student loans and for\-profit schools. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Working with the Student Loan Ombudsman, Student Loan Advocate Attorneys, and Assistant Attorneys General to analyze data and documents, including National Student Loan Data System files, loan payment and status histories, qualifying payment count adjustments for Public Service Loan Forgiveness and Income\-Driven Repayment plans, amortization schedules, interest accruals, interest capitalizations, and federal student loan interest subsidies.
- Supporting investigations by analyzing loan servicer data, school data, regulatory changes, and servicer contract performance standards.
- Working directly with student loan borrowers to navigate more complex student loan repayment, debt relief, and default resolution complaints.
- Supporting other IFSD investigations, outreach, litigation, and settlement implementation for other matters as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in data analytics, or equivalent experience in data analytics or a related field.
- At least three to five years of professional experience or graduate study in data analytics, student loan policy, education policy, federal student aid, or a related field.
- Experience analyzing consumer loan products.
- Familiarity with federal financial aid and Title IV programs, federal and state education statutes and regulations, debt relief initiatives, and loan servicing platforms and data systems.
- Strong data analysis skills, including advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ability to collect, organize, and analyze data.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to details, and time management skills.
- Graduate degree in data science, statistics, education policy, or another relevant field, or equivalent experience, preferred.
- Ability to learn new subject areas quickly and synthesize complex information.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated interest in public interest or consumer protection work.
Position Type: Full\-Time/Exempt. Our current hybrid model includes some remote workdays for most positions.
Salary: $68,738
