Overview
We are seeking an organized, detail\-oriented self\-starter to act as a SPANISH SPEAKING legal assistant for a Contract Basis Legal Assistant to joint our team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to support a wide range of legal functions in the areas of: (1\) immigration law, (2\) criminal defense, (3\) family law, and (4\) consumer bankruptcy. As a SPANISH SPEAKING Legal Assistant, you will play a vital role interpreting for attorneys and communicating Client needs. Additionally, You will be gathering Client documents, organizing legal documents, and providing administrative support to ensure smooth and efficient legal operations. This position is paid and ideal for candidates eager to refine their Spanish language skills for the legal context, legal administrative skills in an office environment, and gain new experience for anyone transitioning to the legal field as a career.
Duties
- Inter\-office conflicts checking between firms for any persons already operating on a contractual basis with multiple firms.
- Interpreting for Spanish speaking clients during intake meetings and communications with the Client.
- Manage, organize, and gather Client documents.
- Download and file e\-filings, calendar deadlines, and track personal time for electronic billing.
- Support client matters by coordinating deadlines, tracking case progress, and maintaining detailed records of all activities.
- Perform data entry tasks related to case files and legal administrative records ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Provide executive administrative support including scheduling appointments, managing phone etiquette, organizing files, and handling clerical tasks such as filing and transcription
- Excellent Spanish language skills, including proficiency in formal communications and legal terminology.
- Familiarity with email, document storage systems (Dropbox, One drive, Google drive), and ability to learn new systems
- Exceptional discipline and organizational skills with the ability to ensure that documents, calendar entries, and time keeping.
- No prior legal experience required; prior office experience highly preferred.
- For any criminal offense, other than a class C misdemeanor relating to the parking or operation of a motor vehicle, have you ever plead guilty, no contest, been placed on deferred adjudication, and/or engaged in an arrangement with any criminal prosecuting authority whereby the charges were dismissed in exchange for completing certain conditions, trainings, classes, and/or community service (e.g., a pre\-trial diversion)? If so, explain each instance.
