  • Under general supervision, assist with the installation, configuration, administration, maintenance, and monitoring of the County’s network and server infrastructure using industry standard protocols and procedures.   • Assist in the installation, configuration, maintenance and administration of network hardware and services infrastructure, including servers, routers, firewalls, switches and associated operating systems and server software. Implement and maintain appropriate security standards and protocols as applicable to all stages of the technology life\-cycle, from installation to decommissioning.

    Use appropriate tools and systems to monitor network and server integrity, capacity, and security, and to detect, troubleshoot, and remediate network and server related problems. Use appropriate tools and systems to monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot integrity, security, and access of desktop clients to network and server related resources and services. Use appropriate tools to monitor, analyze, detect, and remediate security, connectivity, and performance problems on LAN, WAN and VPN infrastructures. Use appropriate tools and systems to monitor physical security and integrity of all network and server related resources including hardware, cooling, and power.

    Support log generation, collection, retention, and reporting from network, server, and related systems to assist with operational monitoring, audits, and investigations.

    Assist with the implementation and maintenance of identity and access controls, including authentication mechanisms, role\-based access, and least\-privilege principles for network and server systems.

    Drive to County sites to install, configure, repair, and maintain network and server related equipment and related infrastructure. Train end users as needed. Maintain and supplement current documentation; maintain and supplement records of network, server, and related hardware inventory and security. Interact with PC and network vendors and contractors. Continue professional development, by maintaining and advancing job related knowledge, skills, and abilities using provided educational resources.

    Provide support for identity, authentication, access control, monitoring, and logging systems associated with network and server infrastructure, and assist with compliance\-related operational requirements applicable to local government IT environments.

    WAN and LAN infrastructure includes Cisco and other network technologies and platforms. Server infrastructure includes Microsoft, Cisco, and Linux platforms and services for both data and telecommunications technologies. Provide technical support to Telecommunications in the implementation, operation, and maintenance of telecommunications related network and server infrastructure. Provide technical support to help\-desk and PC technicians with all aspects of PC, printer, and other hardware installation, configuration, administration, monitoring, and maintenance. Provide technical support and training for users accessing network and server resources.

    Knowledge of information technology best practices for network, server, and PC hardware and software installation, configuration, administration, and maintenance.

    Knowledge of Cisco routers, switches, and firewalls.

    Knowledge of secure remote access technologies, authentication methods, MFA, and VPN infrastructure.

    Knowledge of SAN implementation and support.

    Knowledge of virtualization technology implementation and support.

    Knowledge of backup technology hardware and software implementation and support.

    Knowledge of network and server operating systems and related infrastructure services as implemented in Windows and Linux network environments including directory services, group policy and permissions deployment, DNS, FTP, HTTP, email (SMTP, POP, IMAP), groupware, unified communications, file services, and database services.

    Knowledge of desktop operating systems and support.

    Knowledge of update and patch management and deployment.

    Knowledge of anti\-malware, anti\-spam, and related strategies and technologies.

    Knowledge of PC and mobile device management.

    Knowledge of log management, auditing concepts, and compliance\-related operational requirements affecting local government IT environments.

    Knowledge of customer service/public relations practices.

    Skill automating network and server monitoring and maintenance tasks.

    Skill prioritizing, scheduling, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating work.

    Skill evaluating, analyzing, planning, and implementing new and/or enhanced software and hardware.

    Skill analyzing and resolving customer/client needs.

    Skill monitoring and troubleshooting servers, PC’s, and peripherals.

    Skill providing technical support and training to staff and end users.

    Skill utilizing verbal and written communication to develop reports, training, and support end users in problem resolution.

    Skill utilizing customer service/public relations techniques when responding to inquiries and complaints.

    Skill establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

    Skill effectively communicating in both oral and written form.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and a valid driver’s license. OR

    An Associate’s Degree and two (2\) years of direct work experience in server and network administration support. A valid driver’s license is required. OR

    The equivalent of a high school diploma and four (4\) years of direct work experience in server and network administration support. A valid driver’s license is required. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Prior to operating a County\-owned vehicle, all employees are required to complete the HC Defensive Driving course and/or an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) provided at the department level.

    Basic working knowledge of and experience with Microsoft server infrastructure and networking technologies is required.

    Basic working knowledge of and experience with Cisco IP routing and Ethernet switching technologies is required.\\Testing and certification may be required to demonstrate minimum knowledge, skill, and ability. \*\* PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Basic working knowledge of and experience with Linux server technology is preferred. Microsoft and/or Cisco certifications are preferred. Experience with scripting or automation tools, such as PowerShell or similar administrative scripting languages, is preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Work requires long periods of attention to detail, extensive computer keyboarding, and occasional lifting, bending, kneeling, stooping, or crawling to maintain, repair, install or connect personal computers, server and network related hardware, and peripherals weighing up to thirty (30\) pounds; ability to drive an automobile.     Medical coverage is offered through Cigna to fulltime employees. The County pays a generous portion of the medical premium. Two options are available to choose from: LCP (Local Cost Plus) and OAP (Open Access Plus).

  • The LCP has a smaller network that includes most providers and hospitals, with the exception of Parkridge facilities/providers.
  • The OAP is a national network of facilities/providers that includes most providers/hospitals, including Parkridge.
  • Dental coverage is a voluntary benefit available to fulltime employees. Three coverage options are offered: Cigna High Plan, Cigna Low Plan, and Sun Life DHMO.

  • The Cigna High Dental Plan covers orthodontia for children up to age 18\. A national network of dental providers is available to choose from and this plan offers out of network coverage.
  • The Cigna Low Dental Plan does not cover orthodontia. A national network of dental providers is available to choose from and this plan offers out of network coverage.
  • The Sun Life DHMO plan is a prepaid dental plan that offers benefits through a network of plan dentists. A dental provider must be selected when enrolling and services must be provided by that provider for benefits to apply.
  • Life Insurance/Accidental Death and Dismemberment is provided through Symetra. The County provides $30,000 of Basic Life/Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage at no cost to fulltime employees.

    Hamilton County Government Retirement for Fulltime Employees:

    Pension – Legacy Plan (hired prior to 10/1/2015\), in which the employer contributes 14\.70%.

    Pension – Hybrid Plan (hired on or after 10/1/2015\), in which the employee contributes 5% and the employer contributes 4%.

    401K – Employer contributes 5% and the employee can contribute the amount of their choice.

    457b – Employees have the option to contribute to this plan if they choose.

  • Parental Leave:

    Hamilton County provides eight (8\) weeks of paid maternity leave and two (2\) weeks of paid paternity leave following the birth of a child or placement of a child with an employee in connection with adoption (age 13 or younger) or foster care.

    Paid Time Off:

    Hamilton County Government provides generous paid time off (PTO) to fulltime employees from the start of employment.

  • Years 1 – 5: an employee will accrue 5\.85 hours of leave, per pay period.
  • Years 5 – 10: an employee will accrue 6\.77 hours of leave, per pay period.
  • Years 11–15: an employee will accrue 8\.31hours of leave, per pay period.
  • Year 15 and each year thereafter, an employee will accrue 8\.93 hours of leave, per pay period.

At each anniversary, an employee can roll over up to 80 hours of unused PTO into their leave bank. (Up to 800 hours for employees hired on or after 1/1/2013\).
