Job Summary
The BI Developer designs, builds, and maintains the business intelligence solutions that translate mSupply’s enterprise data into actionable insights. Working primarily in Power BI and connected to the Gold layer of the enterprise data platform, this role develops semantic models, interactive reports, dashboards, and self\-service analytics capabilities across the organization.
Job Duties \& Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and interactive analytics solutions that meet business requirements across HVAC, plumbing, and appliance business units.
- Build and optimize Power BI semantic models (datasets), including DAX measures, calculated columns, relationships, and role\-level security configurations.
- Connect Power BI to the enterprise data platform via Direct Lake, SQL Analytics Endpoints, and OneLake, ensuring performant and reliable data connectivity.
- Partner with Business Product Owners and functional stakeholders to gather requirements, define KPIs, and translate business questions into clear visualizations.
- Optimize report performance through query reduction techniques, aggregation tables, incremental refresh, and efficient DAX patterns.
- Establish and maintain Power BI workspace governance, including naming conventions, deployment pipelines, and access management.
- Collaborate with Data Engineers and Analytics Engineers to define Gold layer semantic model requirements and ensure upstream data structures support reporting needs.
- Develop standardized report templates and visual design patterns that ensure a consistent, professional look across the reporting portfolio.
- Support self\-service analytics adoption by building reusable datasets, creating documentation, and training business users on Power BI.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3\+ years of experience developing business intelligence solutions with strong proficiency in Power BI (report development, semantic modeling, DAX).
- Solid proficiency in SQL for querying, validating, and exploring data across relational and lakehouse environments.
- Experience building and optimizing Power BI semantic models, including star schema design, relationships, and row\-level security.
- Understanding of data visualization best practices and the ability to translate complex data into clear visual narratives.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to gather requirements from business stakeholders and present findings to non\-technical audiences.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Direct Lake connectivity, SQL Analytics Endpoints, and OneLake.
- Familiarity with Power BI deployment pipelines, workspace governance, and Power BI Service administration.
- Experience with dbt or modern analytics engineering workflows and the medallion architecture (Bronze / Silver / Gold).
- Background in wholesale distribution, supply chain, HVAC, plumbing, or related B2B sectors.
- Experience or demonstrated ability using AI\-powered tools (e.g., code assistants, LLMs, AI\-augmented workflows) to accelerate work and improve outcomes.
- Primarily sedentary work with extended periods at a computer
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and through virtual collaboration tools
- Occasional standing, walking, and movement during meetings or travel
- Ability to travel periodically for business needs, including visits to distribution centers, suppliers, or industry events
