Job Responsibilities

- Assists the Director of Residence Life in the short\- and long\-range planning and direction for the department’s administrative, business, personnel and budgetary affairs.
- Assists in the development of living\-learning communities and/or themed housing.
- Implements and evaluates policies, procedures and programs and develops new departmental initiatives that enhance student involvement.
- Chairs departmental committees.
- Maintains office hours in the Central Residence Life Office.
- Works in cooperation with other Student Life departments to create and execute programs and training for student success.
- Supports ongoing assessment efforts concerning residential students and their experience.
- Supervises and mentors two to three professional RSCs, one graduate\-level Resident Director, and up to 45 RAs in residence hall administration.
- Coordinates recruitment, selection and training of RSCs.
- Responsible for promoting and advancing student learning and success through implementation of the Residence Life Curriculum and Programming model.
- Oversees the coordination, planning, implementation and assessment of training programs and workshops for Residence Life staff.
- Teaches the Theory and Practice of Residential Leadership, as needed.
- Updates staff handbooks and training materials on a yearly basis.
- Develops departmental marketing and retention materials.
- Administers the department’s programming database.
- Coordinates summer camps and conference operations.
- Oversees summer job descriptions and applications for summer school and summer camps and conferences, summer staff hiring and training processes, and the scheduling, administration and billing of all residential summer camps and conferences.
- Inspects residence halls bi\-weekly, reports issues/concerns Facilities Management and follows up as needed.
- Approves/inspects room personalization requests.
- Coordinates residence hall maintenance , including summer projects and after\-hours emergency circumstances.
- Counsels staff members, individual students and student groups.
- Consults on Residence Life disciplinary cases/sanctions; adjudicates Residence Life disciplinary cases/sanctions as needed; and serves as an appeal agent in the judicial process.
- Acts as a judicial hearing officer as needed for the Dean of Students office.
- Participates in the professional staff on\-call rotation to address student crises, at\-risk student needs, and personnel and building emergencies on a 24\-hour\-per\-day, seven\-day\-per\-week basis, including university break periods.

- Bachelor’s degree in college student affairs or related field.
- At least two years of relevant professional experience.
- Knowledge of policies, procedures and best practices associated with residence hall operations.
- Knowledge of interpersonal/group interactions and lay counseling techniques.
- Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to advise students on a range of topics.
- Ability to exercise mature judgment, tact and flexibility and maintain confidentiality in difficult and sensitive situations.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, parents and the general public.
- Ability to coordinate/monitor a variety of concurrent projects/activities.
- Ability to supervise and evaluate the work of others.
- Ability to function effectively with minimal supervision.
- Ability to effectively administer disciplinary sanctions.
- Ability and willingness to live on campus and participate in emergency on\-call rotation.

- Master’s degree or master’s degree in progress.
- Two years of full\-time professional experience in student housing, student affairs or related student personnel work.
- Supervisory experience.

Reporting to the Assistant Dean/Director of Residence Life, the Assistant Director coordinates the administrative and operational functions of a group of residence halls; oversees the ongoing recruitment, selection, training and evaluation of Residential Success Coordinators (RSCs) and all levels of residential student staff; and supports all Residence Life initiatives.

Travel/Overtime Requirements: Occasional evening and weekend hours.
Annual Salary/Hiring Range: $50,285 to $55,984; actual salary depends on qualifications.
