Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Extensive experience with longitudinal data analysis and statistical modeling (growth curve analysis, multilevel modeling)
  • Research experience in developmental psychopathology, with emphasis on emotion development, internalizing disorders (depression, anxiety, non\-suicidal self\-injury) and adolescence
  • Experience providing mentorship to undergraduate and graduate students
  • Experience conducting clinical assessments and providing supervision of clinical assessment in the context of research studies
  • Licensed or licensed eligible

Professor Bonnie Klimes\-Dougan is seeking a postdoctoral scholar to investigate typical and atypical emotional development in adolescence, with a focus on mood conditions and risk for self\-harm. Opportunities may include working with large data sets focused on brain development (e.g., ABCD study), incorporating designs that focus on both risk and protective factors, and applying advanced longitudinal statistical skills. Individuals will be able to avail themselves of resources in the Department of Psychology, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Biostatistics, CMRR, etc., at the University of Minnesota, where vibrant collaborations have been ongoing for the past two decades in the context of the Research on Depression Lab to advance the understanding of and methods to alter adolescent depression.

Anticipated start date is Sept 1, 2026\. Appointment will be at a 75%\-time for 12 months. This position is intended for those who have obtained their Ph.D. in the last 5 years. Annual salary will be prorated at 75%\-time, based on the appropriate 12\-month postdoctoral associate salary level as stipulated by the NIH.

Responsibilities:

70% \- Lead new and existing scientific projects related to emotional development, brain development, and internalizing psychopathology, including project design; data collection, management, and analysis; and a strong focus on preparation of manuscripts for publication and dissemination.

10% \- Active engagement in research team meetings. Discuss with mentors, plan, and implement new avenues of investigation.

15% \- Engage in co\-mentoring or mentoring graduate and undergraduate students in clinical evaluations and research.

5% \- Other activities associated with being a member of an academic department, such as engaging in research seminars and other training opportunities.

This position will report directly to Dr. Bonnie Klimes\-Dougan.

The Department of Psychology is one of the largest departments within the College of Liberal Arts, and is a highly ranked department nationally. Currently, the department has 46 core faculty, 80\+ staff, 120 graduate students, and it supports the largest number of undergraduate majors of any academic program on the UMN Twin Cities campus. Additionally, the department has $40 million or more in active research funding at any given time (the majority from NIH), spread across 70 or more projects.
