The High School Assistant Principal will motivate, inspire and guide personnel, make the school an attractive, pleasant, harmonious and productive place in which to work and learn and will develop and implement programs and initiatives that foster school spirit and that will enhance school climate and culture. JOB ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed within a secondary school environment. Work environment will include supervising activities on and off campus at nights and on weekends. PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS: Provides supports to all educators and teams to adapt as needed and implement standards\-based units comprised of well\-structured lessons, such that students are able to learn the knowledge and skills defined in state standards/local curricula. Frequently provides feedback as necessary.Supports the principal with defining high expectations for the quality of instruction, student work, and the perseverance and effort required to produce it; supports all educators to uphold these expectations for all students.

While observing practice and reviewing unit and/or lesson plans, regularly provides quality feedback to teachers on the use of appropriate inclusive practices that meet the diverse learning needs of all students, including those of academically advanced students, students with disabilities, and English learners.Supports all educators to identify appropriate measures of student learning during development of the Educator Plan, including statewide and common assessments where available, as well as anticipated student learning gains for those measures. Encourages alignment to school and district learning goals. Exercises sound and reliable judgment in observing, assessing, and assigning performance ratings related to the Standards of Effective Teaching that reflect evidence of practice, impact on student learning, student feedback, and goal attainment for all educators; consistently reviews alignment between judgments of practice and student performance data along with aligning with the school's administrative team; ensures that educators understand why they received their ratings.Supports the established operational systems, procedures, and routines that generally ensure orderly and efficient student entry, dismissal, meals, transitions, and assemblies.Supports the defined high expectations for student behavior and provides training for staff to uphold these expectations. Supports the established schoolwide routines, policies, and systems that (a) foster a safe and supportive school environment for all students, and (b) prevent and address bullying and other unsafe behaviors in a developmentally appropriate way that allows students to grow from these experiences.

Understands and complies with state and federal laws and mandates, school committee policies, and collective bargaining agreements.Demonstrates sound, professional judgment; adheres to school and/or districts existing code of ethics; protects student, family, and staff confidentiality; and expects staff to do all as well.Engages with families in a way that is culturally responsive and collaborative to ensure that all families are welcome and can contribute to the classroom, school, and communitys effectiveness. Supports educators to identify each students academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs, including students with disabilities and English learners, and collaborates with families to address student needs, utilizing resources within and outside of the school. Supports families in understanding district and school\-based policies and resources that ensure student learning and achievement.Responds to families as concerns arise in a timely and effective manner, and supports educators to do the same; works to reach equitable solutions in the best interest of students. Is able to articulate rationale for decisions made.Fosters a shared commitment to high standards of teaching and learning with high expectations for achievement for all.Utilizes strong interpersonal, written, and verbal skills to consistently and effectively communicate with stakeholders.Participates in appropriate professional development activities that will ensure acquisition and implementation of current knowledge and practices in all aspects of the position.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises and evaluates high school faculty and staff as assigned by the Principal.Attends school functions during the day, at night, and on weekends in coordination with other administrators.Coordinates and supervises high school extracurricular programs and activities in conjunction with the Director of Student Activities.Meets daily with the school administrative team to discuss school activities, accomplishments, and issues.Participates in Central Office organized administrator and principals meetings, as needed.Works cooperatively with the Principal, other Assistant Principal or Associate Principal, Counseling Department Coordinator, and Special Education Coordinator in administering all aspects of service delivery to students.Assists in the preparation of handbooks and other paperwork required or necessary and appropriate to the schools administration.Serves as the lead administrator for school safety and security, including safety drills and maintaining records for building access cards and keys.Serves as school administrative representative at team meetings regarding middle school students Individual Educational Programs (IEPs) and Section 504 Accommodation Plan meetings, as needed.Chair of the high school Student Assistance Team (SAT) and also attends SAC (Special Education, Administrative and Counseling).Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforcement of discipline codes.Maintains high school discipline records and communicates all administrative disciplinary actions to the staff.Leads investigations and implements appropriate discipline for high school student issues while complying with all legal requirements surrounding student discipline and suspension.Assists the Principal with scheduling teacher and staff duties.Administers school rules regarding attendance and procedures for high school students.Oversees/manages the Commencement Ceremony.Acts as the Testing Coordinator for Advanced Placement (AP) testing and MCAS.Acts as the Community Service Coordinator.Supports the Director of Student Activities with the implementation of Advisory at the high school level.Assumes other tasks and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Good general health.Alert, physically assertive and mobile at all times.Lift, push, or pull 50 pounds as required.Mobility to regularly walk, stand, stoop, reach, bend and occasionally run.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: District CORI Check required before employment beginsFederal Fingerprint Check required before employment beginsSalary and benefits to be negotiated with the Superintendent.
