  • The Dean of the College of Health Sciences provides strategic leadership, vision, and operational oversight for one of the University’s most critical academic units, guiding growth in academic programs, research, and community partnerships at The University of Texas Permian Basin. Serving as a member of the Provost’s leadership team, the Dean collaborates with faculty, staff, and external partners to advance student success, workforce development, and regional impact in healthcare and related fields. This role is central to shaping the future direction of the College through program development, accreditation, budget management, and community engagement, aligning institutional priorities with the evolving needs of the Permian Basin and beyond.

  • Provide strategic leadership and management of all academic, administrative, and operational functions within the College of Health Sciences.
  • Collaborate with faculty and University leadership to develop and implement curricula aligned with regional and state workforce needs.
  • Ensure College initiatives align with institutional strategic priorities and long\-term planning efforts.
  • Lead efforts related to student recruitment, retention, and graduation outcomes.
  • Promote excellence in teaching, scholarship, research, and service across academic programs.
  • Mentor and support faculty development, advancement, and performance.
  • Oversee program accreditation processes and ensure compliance with accrediting bodies.
  • Manage College budgets, financial planning, and fiscal operations.
  • Support faculty and staff professional development initiatives.
  • Engage with external advisory boards, healthcare partners, and community stakeholders to expand program impact.
  • Advance interdisciplinary programs and collaborations across health sciences and related fields.
  • Develop and strengthen pathways into healthcare professions through outreach and partnerships.
  • Collaborate with University leadership to support strategic initiatives, including future program development and facility planning.

  • Required Qualifications

  • Terminal degree in Health, Behavioral, Biomedical Sciences, a related applied science, or equivalent field from a regionally accredited institution
  • Demonstrated record of progressive academic, administrative, or professional leadership with significant accomplishments, including credentials qualifying for faculty appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor or equivalent executive\-level leadership experience in professional institutions
  • Success in attracting, recruiting, retaining, and evaluating faculty and staff consistent with the highest standards of scholarship
  • Experience in building successful, productive administration\-faculty relationships and shared decision\-making
  • Success in leading programs to accreditation and maintaining the accreditation standards relevant to the Dean of Health Sciences, for example, Commission on
  • Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), or Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) and others
  • Experience in developing/restructuring interdisciplinary research and academic programs
  • Solid track record in meeting the Institution's mission concerning enrollment, graduation, and research
  • Demonstrated success in developing partnerships with community/industry
  • Success building and executing a strategic and fiscally sound unit budget
  • Eligible for discipline\-specific licensure in the State of Texas

  • Candidates with at least (5\) five years of administrative experience overseeing complex operations
  • Documented industry experience and/or leadership roles, skill set in business development

The College of Health Sciences at The University of Texas Permian Basin is positioned at the heart of UTPB’s mission to serve the region’s rapidly growing healthcare needs. The College is home to the School of Nursing, Departments of Social Work, Human Performance, Psychology, Biology, and Community \& Family Health, along with the Center for Interprofessional and Experiential Learning and the Midland Health Simulation \& Learning Resource Center. Schedule

Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 – 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm with a one\-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.

Standard Working Conditions

1\. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.

2\. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.

3\. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.

4\. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.

5\. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job\-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
