##### Position Summary
##### The Phlebotomist is responsible for blood specimen collection from patients of all ages in accordance with the department and hospital’s safety policies and procedures.
##### Essential Duties and Responsibilities
##### These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned.
- ##### Collect blood specimens from venous and capillary sites using approved equipment and procedures
- ##### Identify patients per established patient identification protocols
- ##### Utilize the laboratory and hospital computer systems to run and audit collection lists, sort the workload, and follow up on pending dispatch specimens
- ##### Accession blood and body fluid specimens by entering appropriate data into the computer and labeling per established protocols
- ##### Complete pre\-analytical processing steps by centrifugation when appropriate and delivering specimens to the technical departments for testing
- ##### Process specimens for reference labs by centrifugation, aliquoting, and completing order entries
- ##### Utilize proper isolation techniques according to hospital policy
- ##### Utilize the Hospital Information System accurately while performing all functions assigned to this job classification
- ##### Attend required hospital\-wide orientations, meetings, and in\-services

##### Reports to: Lead Phlebotomist / Director. May be assigned work from the Radiologists, the Administrative Director and other Clinical Leads

##### Qualifications

##### Education and Experience
##### Minimum Required Education:
High school diploma or equivalent
##### Preferred Education:
Not applicable
##### Experience:
Recent working experience as a Phlebotomist is preferred, but will consider new graduates
##### Certification
##### Certified as a Registered Phlebotomist (CPT), Medical Assistant, EMT or Paramedic preferred. BLS required.
