Accounting Assistant

About the Role

We are a well\-established, locally owned firm since 1983 with a strong reputation for quality work and long\-term client relationships. We are looking for a reliable and detail\-oriented Accounting Assistant to support our accounting team. This role will start with accounts receivable responsibilities and expand into accounts payable and broader accounting functions over time. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to gain hands\-on experience in accounting, with a clear path to a full\-time position.

Responsibilities

Accounts Receivable (Primary Focus; Training Provided)

• Follow up on outstanding invoices and assist with collections
• Send and track invoices
• Maintain AR aging and flag past due accounts
• Apply payments and assist with daily deposit entries
• Track and follow up on change orders Billing \& Project Support
• Assist with invoice preparation and backup documentation
• Review and track change orders
• Support project closeout documentation

Administrative Support (Training Provided)

• Maintain organized digital and physical filing systems
• Assist with data entry and recordkeeping
• Answer and route incoming calls using a multi\-line phone system
• Support general accounting and office tasks as needed

Accounts Payable (Introduced as Responsibilities expand, Training Provided)

• Enter vendor invoices
• Assist with invoice tracking and approvals
• Support check runs and payment processing

Qualifications

• Basic understanding of accounting principles or coursework in accounting/business
• Strong attention to detail and organization
• Comfortable using Excel and general computer systems
• Good communication skills, especially for follow\-ups
• Reliable and able to manage routine tasks independently
• Must be authorized to work in the United States
