JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Classroom Assistant, Early Intervention is directly supervised by the Early Intervention Supervisor and is responsible for the assessment and instruction of students in the Early Intervention Program. All assistants are itinerant and travel from site to site. The students range in ages from 3\-5 years old.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The essential functions of this position may include but are not limited to:

1\. Assists with the administration of lesson plans and participates in IEP development.

2\. Conducts small group instruction and provides classroom support.

3\. Maintains a positive learning environment.

4\. Collects student progress monitoring data.

5\. Completes appropriate billing activities for Medical Assistance 1:1 services.

6\. Engages in daily home/ school communication.

7\. Utilizes computer or iPad as a student teaching tool and for program communication.

8\. Assists with health needs including: toilet training, diapering, dressing, washing hands/face, meal time assistance, etc.

9\. Participates in in\-service trainings and workshops as necessary. 20 hours of PD related to Early Intervention, Early Childhood or Special Education is required yearly.

10\. Works with a variety of classroom therapists, including Systems 1\-2\-3 behavior management consultants.

11\. Provides positive behavior supports to individual children as well as entire classroom.

12\. Possesses knowledge of and uses adaptive equipment and augmentative communication devices.

13\. Carries/secures car seats (or seating vests) and children into vehicles.

14\. Lifts children onto changing table to change diapers.

15\. Engages in prolonged sitting to give hand over hand physical assistance to children.

16\. Cleans and disinfects toys and equipment.

17\. Communicated positively with others

18\. Other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor in support of the department’s or school’s goals and objectives and the District’s mission and Superintendent’s Priority Goals.

EDUCATION REQUIRED

48 College Credit Hours OR High School Diploma and successful completion of a reading and math equivalency test
