HR / SAFETY ASSISTANT
Classification: Hourly \| Non\-Exempt from Overtime
Reports to: Employee Relations Director
Job Summary
Tri\-Star Construction is seeking a HR / SAFETY Assistant to support the HR and Safety Departments by providing comprehensive administrative and operational assistance across a wide range of functions in a fast\-paced construction environment. This role is ideal for someone starting a career in Human Resources or Safety who enjoys supporting a broad demographic and is eager to learn and grow.
Key Responsibilities
Human Resources Support
- Maintain employee personnel files and HRIS with accuracy and confidentiality, including new hires, pay and status changes, org chart updates, medical documentation, etc.
- Respond to routine employee questions regarding HR policies, benefits and payroll
- Assist recruitment and workforce development efforts by devising creative recruiting strategies, posting jobs, screening applicants, scheduling interviews, tracking and following up with applicants and attending job fairs and workforce development events
- Prepare and process pre\-employment and new hire paperwork and background screenings
- Lead onboarding and orientation for new hires
- Assist with state and federal labor law postings for all jobsites
- Support compliance with employment law
- Assist with employment benefit claims, eg Workers’ Compensation and unemployment
- Support offboarding
- Support employee relations in all activities
- Partner with Accounting to address benefit and payroll issues
- Support HR projects and initiatives
- Maintain safety, compliance and regulatory records, eg OSHA, DOT, internal Company
- Coordinate and track safety training / certifications / licenses and expirations
- Support jobsite safety audits and corrective actions, including preparing safety reports, logs and audit materials
- Distribute, track and maintain safety supply inventory, including personal protective equipment (PPE), safety materials, jobsite signage, etc.
- Support incident reporting, documentation, investigations/root cause analyses and follow\-up activities
- Support safety projects and initiatives
- Maintain organized filing systems, both electronic and paper
- Prepare correspondence, forms and reports
- Maintain HR policies and procedures
- Coordinate with leaders and individual personnel on HR and safety documentation needs
- Serve as first point of contact for HR and Safety related questions and issues
- Perform other administrative duties as assigned
- High school diploma/GED required; HR or Safety certification/degree, a plus
- Prior HR or Safety administrative experience preferred but not required
- Strong organization, communication, attention to detail, and follow\-through
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Adept at social media and embraces technology
- Maintain confidentiality and discretion
- Proactive, motivated, approachable, creative thinker
- Works toward growth and expanding role over time
- Bilingual English/Spanish a *HUGE

- Must demonstrate excellent attendance
- Office\-based with regular interaction with field staff
- Occasional jobsite / field visits
- Full\-time with standard business hours, some overtime during peak periods
