OVERVIEW

- Manage case files by preparing, organizing, assembling, and maintaining case files, ensuring compliance with State, Federal, and local rules and mandatory timelines.
- Coordinate and drive document preparation, including subpoenas, affidavits, pleadings, motions, briefs, and correspondence with exceptional accuracy and completeness.
- Oversee discovery and evidence gathering, securing records, affidavits, interview notes, and litigation materials, and proactively identifying additional documents needed for case progress.
- Serve as a key liaison among witnesses, victims, county clients, law enforcement, and expert partners providing guidance, communication, scheduling, and court procedure education throughout the justice process.
- Manage scheduling logistics, including depositions, interviews, hearings, travel arrangements, attorney calendars, and meetings using a computer\-based calendaring system.
- Ensure timely case progress by reviewing timelines, monitoring case actions, and initiating necessary legal documents at all stages.
- Navigate inquiries and communication flow, responding to routine questions from attorneys, agencies, and the public and maintaining responsiveness on case status updates.
- Conduct research and searches, including locating individuals through state agencies, online resources, and court databases.
- Oversee the filing and service of documents, ensuring compliance with court requirements and arranging process service as needed.
- Analyze, sort, and act on incoming mail, email, and fax communications, scanning, copying, and filing documents to maintain complete and accurate records.
- Professional Experience: Three years of experience providing legal administrative support in a law office or court, paralegal support, or related law enforcement administrative support. Related education demonstrating required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job may substitute for up to one year of experience.

- This position is classified as eligible for overtime under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
- This position is covered under a collective bargaining agreement with AFSCME 1308 and the Kitsap County Personnel Manual. As a Legal Assistant, you will:
What you bring:
+ Proficiency with legal procedures, court documentation, and case workflow processes; accurate and proficient data entry and typing skills; and word\-processing experience using Microsoft Office and similar legal software systems.
+ Familiarity with Washington State Court rules and filing procedures.
+ Exceptional ability to communicate with witnesses, victims, law enforcement, and attorneys with professionalism, tact, and clarity. Strong writing, proofreading, and customer\-service abilities.
+ Ability to manage sensitive or confidential information with discretion.
+ Experience in a prosecutor’s office, defense office, or court setting
+ Previous work experience working for a public (Government) entity.
+ Completion of a legal assistant/secretary course.
