St. Peter the Apostle School is seeking a faith\-filled and dynamic principal to continue the mission of Catholic education for our Pre\-K through Grade 8 school. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic Catholic who is ready to lead while working collaboratively with parish leaders, faculty, staff, students, parents, and other stakeholders.

A vibrant Catholic school, St. Peter is looking for a leader who possesses a spirit of innovation and will be a motivating force in shaping our Catholic identity and rigorous academic programs.

This individual will have a passion for excellence and be instrumental in leading and supporting staff in educational best practices. The Principal will build strong relationships with multiple stakeholders, demonstrating leadership and engagement with all. Finally, the model candidate will understand the importance of school vitality and viability, and therefore be vested in making students and faculty feel successful and valued for their contributions.

St. Peter School is unique from all other Catholic Schools in the United States because it is also the site of the St. John Neumann Shrine, 4th Bishop of Philadelphia, and pioneer in Catholic Education.

St. Peter School, educating 220 students, is a Middle States Association accredited school within the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and a ministry of St. Peter the Apostle Parish. Its governance model is the pastor, Father Michael Cunningham, working collaboratively with the business manager, Board of Limited Jurisdiction and the principal and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Office of Catholic Education.

Requirements

The principal of St. Peter the Apostle School must be a dynamic, faith\-filled leader with a strong commitment to Catholic education and the teachings of the Church. This position must lead by personal witness to the Catholic faith and exhibit passion and compassion in articulating the mission of St. Peter the Apostle School to students, parents, faculty, stakeholders and the community.

A practicing Roman catholic who will inspire a shared vision of the value of Catholic education across all constituencies, faculty, students, parents and the greater faith community.

Energetic and positive approach to responsibilities.

Drive to attain results; proven experience and effectiveness in improving student achievement in classroom and/or school.

Has a positive attitude; demonstrates compassion.

Self\-motivated; able to accept criticism and grow as a result.

Strong communication and organizational skills.

Must possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills to guide effective interaction among parents, students and staff.

Must recognize and appoint competent people to positions of leadership.

Must be able to listen to teachers and staff and attempt to understand their perspective.

Must be able to resolve staff conflicts in the spirit of a Catholic faith climate.

Fosters academic professionalism among the staff. Continues his/her own professional development through reading, workshops, etc.

Must have an integrated understanding of the Redemptorist charism, the legacy of Saint John Neumann, and have a deep love and appreciation of them in his or her life and witness.

Qualifications

Must be a practicing member of the Roman catholic church, active in a parish community.

Possess a current teaching certification issued by the state of Pennsylvania

Preferred administration certification issued by the state of Pennsylvania

Possess a master’s degree from an accredited college or university preferably in educational leadership or at least be able to fulfill this requirement within their first two years of employment.

Preferred minimum of five years of experience in a Catholic school.

Previous experience in Catholic school administration will be favorably considered.

Must adhere to the Code of Ethical Conduct, especially with regard to minors.

Must complete all required background check and fingerprinting, Virtus safe\-environment training, and mandated catechist certification.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide visible spiritual leadership to the school community and ensure that appropriate religious and school ministry activities occur regularly.

Ensure that all diocesan policies in administrative procedures applicable to the operations of the school (employee and student handbooks) reflect the school’s mission as a Catholic economic community are implemented.

In cooperation with the Office of Catholic Education, the pastor, and school staff design the academic program of the school, arrange for the assignment, the purchase of materials and equipment, the scheduling of courses and related activities, and annual evaluation of the program.

Approve and oversee all student activities and athletics by means of affective personal communication and working relationships with students, faculty/staff and families.

Oversea programs of guidance and counseling, student services and the supervision and discipline of students.

Adhere to the criteria for admission to the school according to Diocesan policies, and determine the admission of students based on the criterion.

Supervise and evaluate teachers and support staff in accordance with the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Office of Catholic Education.

Work collaboratively with the staff and the diocese to provide for the revision of instructional programs and professional staff development.

Recommend to the pastor the appointment of faculty and staff.

Manage all operations within the school building and the plant facility with regard to school student \& faculty educational needs.

Maintain open and consistent lines of communication with students including meeting with students, listening, and referring them to counseling services as appropriate.

Work collaboratively with school staff along with ministerial staff, cafeteria, financial and maintenance personnel to ensure a safe, supportive and positive Catholic environment.

Monitor and respond to feedback from students and parents which may impact the school.

Integrate the school community into the life of the parish and its ministry.

Oversee the development of an overall financial plan for the school and its future. Engage in short and long\-term planning for the stability of the school, including funds solicitation, fundraising, and engaging the alumni association for future development and establishing endowment programs.

Solicit donations for scholarships, funding for school equipment, sports, the arts, and keeping up with advances in technology and the training of staff with these updates.

Other duties as assigned.
