Position Overview \- LCA Deputy Director

The Department of Military Affairs is looking to hire a Lincoln's Challenge Academy Deputy Director position located in Rantoul, Illinois. This position under administrative direction of the Director, assists in the supervision, management, oversight and direction of the Lincoln’s Challenge Academy. Assists the Director by formulating and implementing policies, procedures, and providing overall administrative and management support. Oversees the management and direction of the Academy in the discretion of the Director. The Department of Military Affairs works with the members of the Illinois Air and Army National Guard. Essential Functions

  • Leads and oversees the development, implementation and evaluation of the state’s annual and marketing plans, including the establishment of proposed target graduation goals for the academy.
  • Serves as the principal authority for internal policies, procedures and regulatory guidance.
  • Ensures post residential mission is properly and efficiently executed through the management and supervision of pre and post residential programs.
  • Facilitates monthly programmatic meetings to review budget planning, manning assessments, program budget advisory council and State Advisory Board meetings to ensure the program meets stake holder expectations within the Department of Military Affairs, United States Property and Fiscal Office and other State and municipal leaders.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires the knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to four years of college.
  • Requires two years of administrative civilian or military experience.
  • Requires experience working with at\-risk adolescents/teenagers.
  • Requires the ability to think clearly and exercise initiative in emergency situations.
  • Requires the ability to develop, approve, and implement disciplinary, safety, security and custodial policies and procedures.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers a master’s degree in a social service or science area, education, or business administration, with course work in management, sales, marketing, public speaking, and human relations.
  • Prefers the ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with agency officials, employees and outside groups.
  • Military: Prefers active membership in the Illinois National Guard or retired (20 years) Armed Forces and/or attainment of military rank of E\-9 to 0\-5\.
  • Employment Conditions

  • Requires the ability to pass a DoD background investigation.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
  • Required to work a flex work schedule including weekends and evenings when necessary to meet agency needs.
  • This position is considered sedentary work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404\.1567(a)). Sedentary work involves lifting no more than 10 pounds.
