Madison County, Virginia Application Instructions for Emergency Communications Shift Supervisor Madison County is accepting applications for the position of Full\-time Emergency Communications Shift Supervisor to work in the Sheriff’s Office/Joint 911 Dispatch Center. Emergency Communications is a 24 hour/365 a year operation. Information on Madison County, the position and the application procedures can be found at https:// www.madisonco.virginia.gov/. The current Madison County Personnel Policy is available on the County website. Part\-time positions are not eligible for these benefits. The hiring rate will depend upon the qualifications of the individual selected but is anticipated to be in the $49,447\.00 \- $60,871\.00/yr. range. Emergency Communications Shift Supervisor Department: Location: Job Type: FLSA Status: Pay Grade: Emergency Communications 107 Church St. Full\-Time Non\-Exempt PS4 General Definition of Work: Performs supervisory, administrative, and technical work within the Emergency Communications Center. Supervises personnel and operations for an assigned shift, ensures adequate staffing, supports employee performance, and provides operational leadership during routine and critical incidents. Works collaboratively with the Training Coordinator in support of Agency training and quality assurance activities. Work is performed under the supervision of the Director and Assistant Director of Emergency Communications. Essential Functions: Supervises Emergency Communications personnel and daily operations during an assigned shift. Ensures adequate shift coverage and assists with scheduling and staffing needs. Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work based on operational needs. Provides leadership, guidance, coaching, and technical assistance to employees. Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, policies, procedures, and Agency directives. Handles escalated operational issues, employee concerns, unusual incidents, and other situations requiring supervisory intervention. Provides supervisory oversight and operational coordination during critical incidents, major events, system disruptions, and other unusual or high\-risk situations. Receives, documents, and addresses employee, citizen, and public safety partner concerns or complaints within the scope of supervisory authority. Monitors employee performance and addresses deficiencies through coaching, documentation, referral, or other appropriate action. Reviews and completes reports, records, documentation, and other work products associated with shift operations for accuracy and completeness. Supports the Agency training program and assists trainees and Communications Training Officers as needed during assigned shifts. Madison County, Virginia Communicates trainee progress, training concerns, and performance concerns to the Training Coordinator and Agency management. Assists the Training Coordinator with quality assurance activities, including review of third\- party QA findings and implementation of appropriate follow\-up coaching, remediation, or training. Coordinates continuing education and required training as needed to assist the Training Coordinator or in the absence of a Training Coordinator. Assists with implementation of new policies, procedures, technology, and operational changes. Initiates and coordinates established procedures for equipment failures, system outages, backup operations, and continuity of communications. Maintains confidentiality and understands supervisory liability and personnel responsibilities. Performs Emergency Communications Dispatcher duties as operationally necessary. May assume command of the Center in the absence of the Director and Assistant Director when designated as the on\-duty or acting supervisor. Maintains a flexible schedule and may be required to work varying shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, or adjusted hours based on operational and staffing needs. Performs related work as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of emergency communications operations, systems, policies, procedures, and applicable regulations; knowledge of supervisory practices, employee coaching, performance management, documentation, workplace accountability, and quality assurance principles; ability to supervise and direct personnel; ability to assess operational situations and make sound decisions under pressure; ability to provide effective coaching and corrective guidance; ability to communicate effectively and maintain accurate records; ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, management, public safety partners, and the public. E ducation and Experience: High school diploma or GED required. Minimum of two years of experience in emergency communications required. Previous experience in a lead, supervisory, training, coaching, mentoring, or acting supervisor role preferred. Previous Communications Training Officer experience preferred. Physical Requirements: This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and pushing or pulling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic). Possess Communications Training Officer certification at appointment or obtain certification within three months of appointment. Possess Virginia DCJS General Instructor certification at appointment or obtain certification within one year of appointment.
