Job Title: Medical Billing and EHR Instructor Location: LaGuardia Community College Department: Adult and Continuing Education (ACE) \- Career and Professional Program Status: Part\-Time Salary: $55 \- $60/hr. Schedule: November 30, 2026 – February 8, 2027 Modality: Hybrid Program Description The Healthcare Finance and Operations Training Program (formerly known as Medical Billing Specialist Program) is designed to prepare students with little or no healthcare experience to obtain entry level positions at revenue cycle, finance, and operations within the healthcare industry. The program delivers 315 hours of intensive training over six months through six comprehensive modules that include Introduction to the US Healthcare System, Medical Billing \& EHR Training, Business Communication \& Customer Service, virtual operations, Introduction to Healthcare Data Analytics, Healthcare Accounting and Revenue Cycle Management, and Career and Job Readiness. Initiated in 2013, in response to the hiring needs of New York area medical institutions, the training curriculum is regularly updated to align with current workforce needs. Recent enhancements have strengthened participants’ critical thinking, data analysis, and AI literacy skills that are increasingly essential in today's healthcare environment. The topics covered in the Medical Billing and EHR module include: · Electronic Health Records and Medical Documentation · Health insurance, managed care, and revenue cycle management · Legal and regulatory issues and Introduction to medical terminology · The heart of medical billing \-CMS 1500, UB 04 form, ICD 10 coding, CPT coding, HCPCS, CMS Reimbursement methodologies, Medicare and Medicaid, TRICARE, EOB and payments · Electronic Health Records simulation training Position Overview The Healthcare Finance and Operations Program is seeking an experienced Part\-Time Medical Billing and Electronic Health Record Instructor to prepare students for careers in medical billing or revenue cycle operations. The instructor will deliver practical, career focused instructions covering insurance claims processes and forms, the proper methods of completing a CMS 1500 and UB 04 form, and the understanding ICD\-10\-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding. This position is well suited for professionals with hands\-on medical billing or revenue cycle experience with strong communication and teaching skills. The candidate should have in\-depth knowledge in medical billing, medical terminologies, and revenue cycle, and can translate industry practices into engaging classroom learning. Candidate should have familiarity with EPIC and EPIC\-look alike simulative software. Key Responsibilities Revision, Update, and Development of Course Materials Review and update syllabus, lesson plans, study materials per the program requirements Create exercises, quizzes, assignments, and other instructional materials Ensure learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the course syllabus and program expectations. Technical Instructions Prepare students to: distinguish between the major classes of health insurance contracts, understand the insurance verification process, analyze the insurance cards of patients, describe the differences between rejected and denied claims, understand and identify the CPT and ICD codes, accurately fill the CMS 1500 and CMS 1450/UB 04 form needed for medical billing Demonstrate appropriate use of EHR software and electronic documentation workflow Promote critical thinking and problem\-solving skills through the lessons Student Support and Administrative Responsibilities · Maintain attendance and grade records · Assess students’ performance, maintain documentation of student progress, and provide feedback as appropriate · Hold office hours to provide additional student guidance and support · Participate in instructor meetings, as needed Minimum Qualifications: At least 5 years of experience in healthcare management Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare or Finance Expert understanding of medical billing, medical terminology, and electronic health record Ability to create and modify curriculum Experience preparing and delivering lesson plans, training sessions, or other structured instructional content Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey technical information in a clear and concise manner. * Ability to serve the needs of traditional and non\-traditional students. Preferred Qualifications · Experience teaching or training adult learners · Experience with multiple EHR or medical billing software Pay: $55\.00 \- $60\.00 per hour Work Location: Hybrid remote in Long Island City, NY 11101
