Responsibilities: Medical Lab Technologist A professional who, under the direction of the section supervisor, performs highly technical work with requires exercise of independent judgment and responsibility involving performance of wide variety of routine tests and specialized chemical, microscopic and bacteriologic test on a professional level to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease. Recognizes problems and/or the potential for problems within the assigned section regarding instruments, computers and inventory. Displays sound, supportive and independent, judgement in resolving issues. Assumes charge of the laboratory (if charge eligible) as assigned. The compensation range for the:Medical Lan Technician Licensed is: $39\.78\- $44\.46Medical Lab Technologist Licensed role is $47\.42\- $52\.21 Garnet Health System provides a compensation range to comply with the New York State law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits. When determining a team member’s compensation and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity). Qualifications: Medical Lab Technologist Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Minimum Experience: Experience preferred but newly NYSED Clinical Laboratory Technologist qualified individuals considered. Required Certification/Registration: ASCP preferred. NYSED Clinical Laboratory Technologist license or eligible required upon hire or transfer. If not licensed, NYSED permit required within two months of hire, and NYSED Clinical Laboratory Technologist license required within one year of permit issuance. + Trainees without a Permit may observe, read procedures, and learn processes in each section of the laboratory. They may not under any circumstances verify any testing on patients. They may be used for specimen processing, send outs and phlebotomy. + Once a Permit has been obtained, candidate may verify tests in areas that competency has been completed. Current and active license as a NYSED Clinical Laboratory Technologist PLUS 4 years of experience post license issuance to be considered charge eligible. Physical Requirements: Occasional bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling and reaching is required. Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word is required. Walking, sitting and standing, most of the day. Visual acuity and color discrimination is required. Ability to communicate effectively and to comprehend conversation. Must have manual dexterity and hand\-to\-eye coordination to handle and manipulate instruments, slides, test tubes and other laboratory equipment. Capable of working long hours at varied times during the day or night. Alertness required during all phases. Working Conditions: Environmental Demands and Exposure to Hazards: Works in a clean, well\- lighted, heated or ventilated facility. No routine exposure to hazards. Physical Demands: Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks. Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment. Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. Mental Demands: Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks. Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility. Ability to multi\-task. Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled. Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations. May be subject to irregular hours including evenings or potentially weekends to participate in operational and community events as necessary.
