Title: Elementary Principal

Qualifications:
1\. Record of good attendance and strong work ethic.
2\. Evidence of good moral character as established in section 3301\-20\-01 of the Ohio Administrative Code.
3\. Valid Ohio driver’s license with an approved driving record.
4\. Computer skills and experience with state assessment portals, student information systems, and data entry.
5\. Valid State of Ohio principal’s certification or license.
6\. Master’s degree from accredited college or university.
7\. Knowledge of Ohio Standards for the Teaching Profession.
8\. Knowledge of Ohio's Learning Standards and State Tests.
9\. Demonstrated sincere desire to aid all students, staff and the community.
10\. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
11\. Skilled in curriculum, teacher evaluation, and community relations.
12\. Demonstrated ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness.
13\. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with staff, parents, students and the public.
14\. Experience working with a culturally diverse student population preferred.
15\. Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education find appropriate.
General Description:
Implements the administration, supervision, and evaluation of all programs and activities, curricular and extra\-curricular, within the elementary building in accordance with the Board of Education policy and Ohio School Law and Standards; provides leadership in the planning and supervision of the educational program. This position requires a highly visible and approachable individual. The successful candidate will demonstrate support for our academic and extracurricular programs through regular attendance at these activities throughout the year.
Essential Functions:
1\. Serves as instructional leader for the school under his/her supervision.
2\. Cooperates with administrative and supervisory personnel in carrying out plans for the improvement of the schools.
3\. Keeps accurate records of all pupils enrolled with such data as maybe required by the Superintendent, in compliance with Ohio laws and regulations of the State Department of Education.
4\. Makes requisitions to the Central Administrative Office for all textbooks, equipment and supplies needed in his/her building.
5\. Sees that all policies established by the Board of Education and procedures established by the Superintendent are judiciously followed and promptly makes such reports as are required.
6\. Supervises accounts for all money collected from pupils or the public for school purposes. Reports shall be made to the Treasurer of the Board of Education for all public monies collected.
7\. Deposits money with an approved depository. No money shall be left in the building overnight.
8\. Is responsible for the full compliance with the laws pertaining to his/her duties in connection with fire drills, tornado drills, prevention of accidents, observance of special days and the displaying of the United States flag.
9\. Reports immediately accidents, burglaries, and incidents of unusual nature to the office of the Superintendent.
10\. Encourages organizations and meetings for the purpose of bringing parents, teachers and children into closer working relationship and encourages the formation of such organizations among parents and teachers as may bring about better understanding of community needs and the needs of children.
11\. Participated in the development of sound policies through administrative staff meetings called by the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
12\. Holds faculty meetings as necessary to develop unified procedures, instructional improvement and professional growth of all staff members.
13\. Maintains a master calendar of regularly scheduled school events including parent\-teacher meetings for buildings and reports all events scheduled to the Superintendent’s office.
14\. Holds conferences each year with certificated personnel in regard to their individual contributions to the educational program, making such suggestions for continuous improvements as necessary and reporting such conferences on the form provided. If a person’s work is unsatisfactory, specific suggestions for improvements shall be made in the conference report. Subsequent written reports shall confirm progress made and provide a basis for reappointment.
15\. Collaborates with teachers to develop strategies and solutions in the matter of discipline, counseling and assisting students. Special cases may be referred to the Superintendent with a written statement of the circumstances.
16\. Designates a teacher to act in place of the principal in case of absence from school, giving instructions as to necessary procedures to follow in the event of an emergency.
17\. Is responsible for the efficient management as well as cleanliness of his/her building, the protection of school property and the welfare of pupils assigned to his building.
18\. After the beginning of each school year, provides the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent with the daily program of the school and the teaching assignment of each teacher under his/her charge.
19\. Analyzes enrollment, staff needs and building requirements in order to recommend before the close of the school year to the Superintendent the building organization and means of instructional improvement for the next school year.
20\. Submits to the Central Administrative Office an inventory of all books, supplies and equipment belonging to the school at the close of the school year or at such other time as is deemed necessary.
21\. Advises parents of the availability of home instruction when there is a probability that a student will be out of school for an extended period of time.
22\. Evaluates annually the performance of all certificated and non\-certificated personnel assigned.
23\. Communicates as needed with all staff to ensure a team approach to problem solving.
24\. Helps maintain safety and security in the building.
25\. Accesses and responds to electronic communication (i.e. website, email, voicemail, etc.) daily.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
1\. Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as responsible citizens.
2\. Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
3\. Remains compliant with district policies regarding alcohol and substance use/abuse. (ie: PO 4122\.01 and PO 4170\)
4\. Reports absences into the online reporting system.
5\. Conducts all work in a safe and responsible manner.
6\. Conducts other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent..
Additional Working Conditions:
1\. Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
2\. Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions.
3\. Occasional interaction among unruly children.
4\. Occasional lifting and carrying of 15\-30 pounds.
5\. Repetitive hand motion (e.g. computer keyboard)
6\. Frequent interruptions of duties by students, visitors, staff and/or telephone.
