Job Description:
Position: Intermediate Tax Analyst II (Level 8\)
Specific business/product groups: US Tax
Reports to: Tax Manager
Position Summary
The Intermediate Tax Analyst II reports directly to the Tax Manager within the Retail Tax Accounting and Compliance group. The analyst will be responsible for all duties related to the preparation and filing of U.S. federal compliance and monthly reporting, assist with tax research projects, support the department in developing and implementing process improvements, and carry out other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the tax accounting function, including monthly, quarterly, and annual income tax provisions
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of federal tax returns and estimates
- Assist with the preparation of tax footnotes for standalone financial statements
- Prepare permanent and deferred Tax workpapers
- Support the execution of changes resulting from tax planning initiatives
- Contribute to the development and delivery of operational or tax\-related projects, as well as special initiatives
- Provide advice and guidance to tax management, business partners and relevant stakeholders on various tax matters
- Help shape the strategic direction of the Tax Function by staying informed on emerging issues, industry trends, and relevant accounting developments

- Identifies and investigates non\-standard Tax accounting and/or operational / reporting issues
- Provides recommendations or escalates issues to appropriate area
- Conducts regular financial analysis / reporting to support business partner, functional Tax areas or centers of expertise
- Moderate level of complexity in analysis / reporting or operational function requiring a short to medium term focus
- Operates as a working lead on finance initiatives as assigned
- Experienced level of the role with general business or specialized Tax, accounting or operational knowledge or related skills required
- Assists in the development and implementation of new financial models, methodologies, frameworks and paradigms to support on\-going business unit reporting and analysis functions
- Contributes to the strategic direction of the Tax function by keeping current on emerging issues, industry trends and/or relevant accounting changes to support own unit or function
- Ensures efficient and accurate Tax operational processes in place that meet all client needs and/or established guidelines as applicable
- Adheres to internal policies / procedures and applicable regulatory guidelines and contribute to the review of internal processes and activities and assist in identifying potential opportunities to improve operational efficiencies
- Assists in the development of systems and processes supporting daily operations, which may include production of reports, general ledger items, fixed asset analysis, accounts receivables/payables and/or costing functions etc.
- Contributes to the development and delivery of operational / Tax projects or special initiatives for own area and monitor or track key items
- Follows up on outstanding processing entries, reconciliation items or other tracking issues to ensure proper resolution and to minimize errors
- Contribute to process mapping activities including designing process improvements, issue resolution, special projects and production of relevant reports
- Conducts regular, ongoing analysis, evaluation and review of business performance and initiatives against established reference points (e.g. plan, prior year, business cases) as directed
- Provides advice and guidance to Tax Management and/or business partners and appropriate stakeholders on a range of Tax accounting / reporting or operational processes
- Coordinates and/or consolidates financial information needs / requests among various parties (e.g. business Tax Teams, other stakeholders, eternal parties / regulators / auditors and/or centralized Tax units e.g. Chief Accountant, Enterprise Decision Support, Finance Shared Services, Investor Relations and Taxation etc.,)
- Develops and maintains solid and effective working relationships with Business Unit management, Tax partners and other stakeholders by providing value added analysis, guidance and/or operational Tax support
- Acts as a key resource to the business or functional unit by providing relevant and meaningful financial information / data / guidance on specialized procedures and/or issues (e.g. tax, accounting principles, reconciliation / reporting / financial controls / Tax processes etc.)
- Identifies variances and contribute to the analysis, due diligence and execution and/or implementation of potential initiatives, acquisitions and/or business re\-structures within defined area of responsibility
- Contributes or leads Tax related operational activities (e.g. report production, system queries, process mapping, specialized tracking, analysis and transactional procedural support) as assigned
- Bachelor degree in Business/Accounting/Financial Management (accounting designation is preferred but not required)
- 3\+ years related experience
- Requires working knowledge of the Tax function and the key business areas supported
- Must be knowledgeable of established benchmarks and/or best practices for own area
- Must be detail oriented and possess problem\-solving skills. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and establish priorities
