The Assistant Principal of Programs for Adjudicated and At\-Risk Youth is pivotal in providing educational leadership and programmatic direction. This position involves overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs tailored to the needs of adjudicated and at\-risk youth populations. The assistant principal works closely with facility administrators, educational staff, social workers, and other stakeholders to create a supportive and enriching environment for incarcerated youth's rehabilitation and academic success. The position involves developing and implementing programs and procedures designed to improve academic performance, reduce recidivism, and foster positive behavior. This position is responsible for supervising and formal evaluation of all building employees, scheduling of students and staff, curriculum, building budget, and physical building.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Foster a school climate and culture of excellence, teamwork, and collaboration.
  • Collaborate with educational staff to design curriculum, instructional materials, and assessment tools that foster academic growth, critical thinking skills, and positive behavioral development.
  • Develop comprehensive educational programs aligned with state standards and tailored to adjudicated and at\-risk youth's unique needs and challenges.
  • Ensure integration of evidence\-based practices, including cognitive\-behavioral interventions and trauma\-informed care principles, into program design and delivery.
  • Facilitate and evaluate the instructional program to maximize students' cognitive growth and effective progress.
  • Provide administration of the school, such as, but not limited to, conducting daily walk\-throughs, reviewing assignments and class coverage, participating on the student support team, and the like.
  • Conduct regular observations, evaluations, and feedback sessions to support staff growth and effectiveness.
  • Design and implement staff development programs aligned with program, team, and organizational goals.
  • Provide leadership and support to the staff in exploring, evaluating, and implementing educational trends and research.
  • Participate in student, special education, staffing, and intake meetings as assigned.
  • Oversee the implementation of comprehensive support services to address the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs of incarcerated youth.
  • Generate, maintain, and analyze accurate PIMS, student, and discipline records, reports, and files as required by policy, school districts, and state and federal law.
  • Monitor the student data system and data entry to ensure current and accurate information (student information, attendance, special education paperwork, timelines, enrollment, course, and behavioral data).
  • Maintain and submit accurate data for PIMS, Safe Schools, and Special Education reporting.
  • Analyze and review assessment data (State, local, instructional, or IEP data).
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to student academic performance, program outcomes, and stakeholder feedback to inform programmatic decisions and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Work with the administration, districts, parents, staff, law enforcement personnel, and the like to implement student behavior codes of conduct.
  • Cultivate and maintain partnerships with local school districts, community organizations, and vocational training providers to expand educational and vocational opportunities for incarcerated youth.
  • Serve as a liaison between thefacility, educational stakeholders, and community partners to promote collaboration and resource\-sharing
  • Manage confidential educational records.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and accreditation standards governing educational programs in correctional settings.
  • Adhere to Act 45 requirements for professional development and active certification, attend workshops and meetings, read professional journals and other publications, and participate in other activities to keep up to date with changes and developments in the profession.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant to the Executive Director or the Executive Director of the Pittsburgh Mt. Oliver Intermediate Unit 2\.
  • Education and Experience Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Counseling, or a related field required.
  • Supervisory certificate or administrative certificate or the completion of a state\-approved supervisory program within the school year of hire.
  • Valid PA teaching certification.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in educational leadership, preferably in a correctional, alternative or urban setting.
  • Knowledge of federal and state educational regulations and requirements.
  • Knowledge of special education law, disabilities, and programmatic needs of students and current trends and techniques.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent development, trauma\-informed practices, and evidence\-based interventions for at\-risk youth.
  • Valid Drivers’ License

    Pay: $72,500\.00 per year
