Position Overview
The Instructional Support Associate (ISA) supports classroom instruction and school operations by assisting teachers, maintaining a safe and structured environment, and serving as a daily or long\-term substitute teacher as needed. The ISA monitors student behavior and progress, supports instructional activities, and helps implement behavior management strategies. In addition, the ISA provides administrative support to the Assistant Principal(s), including managing documentation, supporting data systems, coordinating meetings and events, and facilitating communication among staff. This role requires flexibility, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to student success and a positive school culture. This position reports to the Assistant Principal of Instruction.
### Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
Instructional Support
- Assists the teacher by monitoring and supporting instructional and/or other classroom\-based activities for students as prompted by an in\-person or virtual teacher.
- Serves as an Instructional Support (substitute teacher) for up to an entire day of instruction, at a minimum, a class period, or may serve as a long\-term substitute.
- Assists classrooms by maintaining order and discipline.
- Monitors students in academic and non\-academic settings throughout the school day, including classrooms, hallways, lunch, and school events.
- Assists in maintaining records of student participation, attendance, grades, and performance.
- Provides crisis prevention and intervention where appropriate.
- Maintains a controlled environment for students and staff in the school building and campus.
- Assists with the implementation of verbal behavior management techniques used with individuals with special needs.
- Participates in meetings to share information regarding student progress and opportunities for support.
- Supports all other duties as assigned.
- Provides clerical and organizational support to the Assistant Principal of Instruction.
- Assists with the preparation, distribution, and collection of documentation as needed.
- Helps organize schedules, meetings, and communications related to student support systems and school\-wide initiatives.
- Assists with data entry and maintenance of Instructional and Academic support systems.
- Supports coordination of school\-wide events, meetings, and initiatives led by the Assistant Principal(s).
- Serves as a point of communication support between administration, teachers, and support staff to ensure consistent implementation of school policies and procedures.
- Performs additional administrative duties as assigned to support effective school operations.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing,
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and accomplish specific tasks as requested,
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with instructional and administrative staff,
- Ability to intervene and resolve elevated student conflicts, school\-wide disruptions, and/or crisis.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality surrounding sensitive student information.
- Ability to establish and maintain professional and supportive relationships with students, with the objective of supporting their educational goals.
- Demonstrates team spirit, initiative, and a willingness to collaborate with all members of the school community.
- HS Diploma/GED required
- Bachelor’s degree and or Master’s degree in education, subject\-related field, or another degree with a heavy focus on content is preferred
- 3 or more years of teaching or classroom\-based teaching experience
- Experience in school\-based behavior management and or crisis intervention
