    This home\-based (remote) position is open to Washington residents and those residing on the ID/WA and OR/WA borders. The Opportunity

    The Washington Medical Commission is seeking a Clinical Investigator to support its mission of protecting the public through high\-quality, fair, and timely investigations of physicians and physician assistants. Working under general direction, this role provides clinical expertise in evaluating complaints related to alleged substandard care, practitioner impairment, and noncompliance with Commission orders. The Clinical Investigator applies professional judgment, education, and experience to assess the standard of care and develop well\-supported clinical conclusions and recommendations. Key Responsibilities Include:Clinical Review \& Analysis

  • Evaluate complex complaints involving physicians and physician assistants for potential deviations from the standard of care
  • Apply clinical knowledge to analyze medical records, reports, and evidence
  • Develop clear, well\-supported clinical opinions and recommendations
  • Investigations \& Case Management

  • Conduct timely, thorough investigations into allegations of unsafe or unprofessional care
  • Manage a caseload with competing priorities while meeting critical deadlines
  • Identify risks and proactively support mitigation strategies
  • Collaboration \& Communication

  • Partner with Commission members, Executive Director, staff attorneys, investigators, and the Medical Consultant
  • Engage with complainants, respondents, legal representatives, and healthcare organizations
  • Provide expert consultation to support enforcement and disciplinary processes
  • Professional Accountability

  • Ensure accuracy, quality, and timeliness of all work products
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in highly sensitive situations
  • Stay current on clinical standards, regulatory expectations, and best practices

Required QualificationsThere are multiple pathways to qualify for this position. You must meet one of the options provided and any additional criteria listed. Experience may have been gained through paid or unpaid activities. Please ensure any relevant experience defined below is outlined in your cover letter, resume, and/or applicant profile. Option 1: ThreeyearsofexperienceasaHealthCareInvestigator2 or higher.

    Option 2: Four years of direct investigation experience within a criminal justice or regulatory agency.

    Option 3: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business Administration, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, or a related field. AND Three years of direct investigation experience within a criminal justice or regulatory agency.

    Additional Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience

  • Experience in a legal environment in direct support of an attorney, Commissioners, review judge(s), or equivalent.
  • Gather, preserve, and present material,relevantandpertinentevidence.
  • Practical skills in MS Excel for spreadsheet tasks, workflow management systems, MS Word for document creation and formatting, and Microsoft Outlook or similar email systems for electronic correspondence.
  • After a conditional offer of employment, a criminal history background check will be conducted.     At the WMC, we focus on the delivery of safe medical care by licensees with our efforts focusing on quality care and increasing patient access. The WMC is a full\-scope regulatory organization with units covering licensing, investigations, legal service, compliance, data analytics, communications, and policy. The 64 WMC staff work primarily remotely and range from administrative staff to clinically trained investigators. Working Conditions:

    Schedule:

    Incumbent is expected to work a 40\-hour work week, and on rare occasions, adjust hours to meet client/public needs

    TravelRequirements:

    Local and statewide travel, overnight and extended periods.

    Position requires occasional overnight travel statewide to perform field investigations.

    When driving for state business, the employee must be able to legally operate a state or privately\-owned vehicle; OR provide alternate transportation while on state business.
