The Law Office of Barry E. Janay, P.C. (LOBEJ) Engagement Type: Part\-time, monthly retainer (1099\) Retainer: $2,000 to $4000/month, scope\-dependent — open to discussion Schedule: Flexible, hybrid (Livingston, NJ preferred; remote considered)
About the Firm
The Law Office of Barry E. Janay, P.C. (LOBEJ) is an entrepreneurial and rapidly growing multi\-practice law firm serving the Northern New Jersey and NYC metropolitan area. We handle estate matters, real estate, business law, litigation, and more. We already partner with top Google Local Services advertisers and a developing SEO / Answer Engine Optimization team — and we're now looking for a creative, independent marketing partner to take ownership of the rest of our brand and digital presence.
A Different Kind of Role
This isn't a coordinator job and it isn't a content\-mill gig. We're looking for someone who genuinely understands brand strategy and design — someone who can sit with our voice, sharpen it, and execute across web, email, social, and community.
This role is a strong fit for an independent marketer or freelancer who is building (or wants to build) a boutique marketing agency focused on legal and professional services. We're happy to be your anchor client. If you do good work, there's room to grow with us — and to use the experience as a springboard for your own book of business.
What You'll OwnWeb Design \& Website Maintenance
- Redesign, refresh, and maintain lobej.com (currently on WordPress with Elementor) — pages, layouts, attorney bios, practice\-area pages, and landing pages
- Implement design improvements that reinforce brand and improve conversion
- Coordinate with our SEO/AEO team on technical hygiene, page structure, and on\-page optimization
- Make ongoing updates as the firm grows (new attorneys, new practice areas, new content)
- Help us articulate and evolve the LOBEJ brand: voice, visual identity, positioning across practice areas
- Develop creative assets in Canva/Adobe for digital, print, and direct mail — business cards, brochures, one\-pagers, social graphics, event collateral
- Keep our tone consistent: professional but human, community\-focused, never boilerplate legal fluff
- Build and run our email \& blog program — newsletters, client touchpoints, drip sequences, referral\-source campaigns
- Create press\-releases for dissemination on various wires
- Work with outside vendors for Public Relations and Paid Digital Ads
- Help us evaluate platforms (we have prior experience with Levitate and remain interested in handwritten\-style direct mail)
- Segment and nurture our list of clients, referral partners, and prospects
- Plan, design, and schedule content across LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram
- Build campaigns around firm milestones, CLE presentations, thought leadership (digital estate planning, AI legacies, business law, etc.)
- Engage thoughtfully with the Northern NJ / NYC legal and professional services community online
- Identify and engage with local community organizations and online groups where our prospective clients actually spend time — Facebook mom groups, community and town pages, Nextdoor, parent associations, senior groups, religious and cultural organizations, local nonprofits, and similar
- Build relationships with admins/moderators of high\-fit online groups; place useful, non\-spammy content (helpful answers, educational posts, AMAs, sponsored Q\&As) where appropriate
- Identify community sponsorship and event opportunities — school fundraisers, local fairs, library programs, senior center talks
- Help us show up consistently as a trusted, human, community\-rooted firm — not a billboard law office
- 3\+ years of marketing experience with a meaningful design and brand component
- Strong portfolio showing web design / WordPress work and brand creative (please share — we want to see it)
- Real fluency with WordPress (page builders, themes, plugins, basic customization) and creative tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, or equivalents)
- Demonstrated email marketing experience (Mailchimp, Levitate, Constant Contact, Klaviyo, HubSpot, ActiveCampaign — pick your poison)
- Comfortable with community\-driven marketing — you know how to engage in online groups in a way that adds value rather than getting flagged as spam
- Strong writing and editing instincts — clarity over complexity, no legalese required
- Independent operator: you manage your own time, hit your deadlines, and don't need a manager checking in three times a day
- Bonus: experience marketing for lawyers, financial advisors, CPAs, or other professional services firms
- Bonus: familiarity with the Northern NJ / NYC market
- Bonus: experience with Lawmatics (or comparable legal CRMs) and basic press release distribution
- Bonus: comfort with marketing analytics, UTM tracking, and clear no\-jargon reporting
- A short note about why this role interests you and how you'd want to structure the retainer (monthly hours, scope, deliverables — we're open)
- Your resume or LinkedIn
- Optional: one or two references from past clients or employers
Brand Strategy \& Creative Direction
Content Marketing
Social Media
Community \& Grassroots Outreach
Operations \& Coordination Support (lighter touch)
* Lawmatics CRM: light administration — campaign tagging, list pulls, intake\-form tweaks, basic automations, and reporting; coordinate deeper builds with the firm's internal admins as needed
* Intake \& onboarding scripts: review and refine client\-facing scripts in collaboration with our intake coordinator and attorneys to keep them sharp, on\-brand, and consistent
* Press releases: draft and distribute occasional announcements (case wins, new hires, CLE presentations, firm milestones) to PR wires and relevant legal/local outlets
Who You Are
Why This Could Be a Great Fit
* Anchor client opportunity — if you're building (or want to build) your own boutique marketing agency focused on legal or professional services, we offer a stable, paying, long\-term retainer to build around
* Creative latitude — we have opinions, but we're not micromanagers; bring real ideas and we'll back them
* Visible impact — your work shows up immediately in how the firm is perceived by clients, referral sources, and the local community
* Growth alongside the firm — we're scaling toward 20 attorneys and 10 paralegals; the marketing function will scale with us
* Modern stack and culture — Lawmatics CRM, Clio, Microsoft 365, Power BI; a leadership team that takes marketing (and AI) seriously
* Flexible, retainer\-based engagement — work from where you work best, on the rhythm that works for you
