Job Description:

Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation seeks applicants for a part\-time, 18 hour/week non\-benefits eligible position as a Research Technician. The individual in this position will work collaboratively with the Principal Investigator and research team to plan, direct, organize, and execute project requirements for a NIH\-funded research study focused on increasing physical activity among insufficiently active older adults.

Salary Range: $21\.20 \- $25\.00 per hour; DOE

Essential Duties:

Responsibilities will include supporting various aspects of the research project, including (but not limited to):

  • Participant recruitment.
  • Coordination of team meetings.
  • Supervision of research team members, including other staff and students.
  • Administration of standardized interviews and cognitive assessments as part of eligibility screenings and in\-person data collection.
  • Conducting in\-person data collection assessments with study participants according to established protocols.
  • Data entry and monitoring.
  • Preparation of reports and presentations, reporting study progress and outcomes.
  • This individual will also deliver virtual physical activity coaching sessions that incorporate principles of motivational interviewing and health coaching.
  • Works closely and collaboratively with team members to define project scope, strategy, and outcomes.
  • Additional responsibilities of the position include clearly and respectfully communicating with participants, team members, and other professionals; coordination of project activities; documentation of participant and research team communications and activities; and contributing to an environment that promotes team effectiveness and morale.
  • Handle petty cash.
  • Work under supervision.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Use critical thinking to make decisions and/or analyze and report data/results of tests conducted.
  • Deliver presentations to a variety of audiences.
  • Initiate confidential correspondence on behalf of the project.
  • Conduct interviews over the phone or in person.
  • Work in a school or community setting.
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Schedule appointments and maintain calendar for project.
  • Supervise staff and/or students.
  • Use lab equipment: Garmin activity monitors, ActiGraph accelerometers.
  • Use office equipment including a desktop computer.
  • Able to exercise judgment within generally defined practices \& policies to determine appropriate action.
  • Administer standardized assessments and interventions according to established study protocols.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health promotion, psychology, public health, social work, kinesiology, exercise science, healthcare delivery, or related field.
  • Previous experience on NIH\-funded research projects.
  • Previous experience and/or interest in the areas of physical activity, public health, and health promotion.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
  • Use of basic math and a calculator.
  • Working Environment:

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse.
  • Ability to lift and transport 25 pounds.
  • Frequent physical demands may include stooping, bending, crawling under/around objects, reaching, lifting and pushing objects of varying weights up to 25 pounds (light).

    Project Statement:

    The purpose of the research project for which this position is posted focuses on identifying effective behavior change strategies to increase physical activity among insufficiently active adults at\-risk for mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s disease, and other types of dementia. This position is grant funded with funding expected through 2027\.
