POSITION: SOS/Vet SOS Programs Specialist

WORK HOURS: 37\.5 hours/week, M\-F, 8:30AM\-4:30PM
STATUS: Non\-Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY
The SOS/Vet SOS Programs Specialist is an experienced human or veterinary health worker and a member of and/or a person with a strong desire to work with the communities served by Street Outreach Services (SOS) and Veterinary Street Outreach Services (Vet SOS). SOS and Vet SOS provide free medical and veterinary care to the unhoused San Franciscans and their pets. The Programs Specialist will conduct client outreach with our teams, act as a liaison to the communities we serve, and provide administrative support for SOS and Vet SOS. The Programs Specialist will work in close collaboration with other SOS and Vet SOS program staff, volunteers, and community partners. A 2\-year commitment is preferred.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are respective of the essential function of the position.
1\. Approaches and engages people experiencing homelessness and their pets to assess their need for medical and veterinary care.
2\. Provides hands\-on support for three\-five weekly SOS clinics and twice monthly Vet SOS clinics. Assists with clinic set up and break down; registers clients; assesses needs; makes service referrals; electronically documents encounters; and distributes supplies.
3\. Provides information and referrals related to accessing medical and veterinary care for unhoused people. Maintains and updates key patient resources and referral sheets.
4\. Advocates for unhoused people and their pets within local service delivery systems. Provides transportation and follow\-up calls regarding appointments, as assigned.
5\. Safely operates outreach vehicles as a licensed driver.
6\. Provides education to individuals or groups on topics related to medical and veterinary care for unhoused people and their pets.
7\. Helps maintain adequate clinic inventory on vans and in designated storage locations. Helps solicit product donations and prepares giveaway supplies for SOS and Vet SOS clients (e.g. hygiene bags, pet food bags) for in\-clinic distribution.
8\. Maintains appropriate safety protocols, including disease prevention, handling of infectious waste, and disposal of biohazard, sharps, and expired medications.
9\. Builds and maintains collaborative and positive relationships with community, clinic staff, and partners.
10\. Supports maintenance of SOS and Vet SOS communications, including print materials, webpage, Facebook page, Instagram page, blog entries, and voicemail information.
11\. Answers phone and email inquiries, as assigned.
12\. Maintains and documents confidential information. Supports the ongoing integrity and maintenance of program data and IT devices, including electronic health records, laptops, tablets, and cell phones. Uses assigned technology to complete job functions effectively.
13\. Assists in data and patient story collection for program reports.
14\. Complies with SFCCC Corporate Compliance and Personnel policies and procedures and reports any conduct or event that potentially violates legal, compliance or personnel requirements. Fully participates in any related investigation or proceeding.
15\. Serves on committees as appointed.
16\. Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
1\. Understands and/or is part of the communities being served. Committed to serving unhoused people and their pets.
2\. At least one year of documented experience working or consistent volunteering in a patient\-facing position, e.g. medical assistant, veterinary assistant, health worker, outreach worker, case manager, customer service.
3\. CA driver’s license, clean 3\-year DMV printout, and minimum 5\-year history as a licensed driver.
4\. Ability to read, write, and speak English.
5\. Ability to problem\-solve and prioritize in a fast\-paced environment.
6\. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Willingness to be trained to use Electronic Health Record systems.
7\. Awareness of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds present in the community.
8\. Ability to communicate easily with others, including demonstrated active listening skills. Sensitivity to populations most highly impacted by homelessness and other at\-risk populations.
9\. Ability to work predominantly in the field and some from home.
10\. Comfortable working outdoors and in all kinds of weather (e.g. rain, sun).
11\. Able to lift and carry items weighing 30lbs independently (and team lift for items over 50lbs) for up to an hour.
DESIRED (BUT NOT REQUIRED) QUALIFICATIONS
1\. High School diploma or equivalent.
2\. Fluency in Spanish.
