  • The Brighton Center for Specialty Care is one of the newer University of Michigan Ambulatory Care facilities dedicated to providing high quality health care services for adults and children. The brand new 2\-story facility is located at 7500 Challis in Brighton, MI. We are actively seeking compassionate, enthusiastic, and patient\-focused individuals who will share in the goal of crafting the ideal experience for our patients, families and employees.

    Responsibilities\*

  • This position will primarily focus on supporting the Brighton Center for Specialty Care Infusion department, but may be asked to support other areas at Brighton Center for Specialty Care as part of their regular job duties.
  • As a Medical Assistant in our Infusion Department, you will help us offer our patients a soothing and caring environment for infusion services. Infusion is the administration of fluids, including medication, through the vein and into the bloodstream by intravenous means, which allows us to provide treatment to our patients suffering from cancer, rheumatoid and gastrointestinal diseases and/or disorders.
  • In these specialized departments you will master the ability to obtain vital signs, height and weight to help calculate drug dosages accurately. In addition to these skills and the abilities you already possess as a Medical Assistant, you will be responsible for: ensuring patients are efficiently moving through examination, consultation and treatment rooms; preparing, cleaning, and stocking patient and procedure rooms; obtaining and updating medication lists along with medical and surgical histories; performing EKGs, pulse oximeters, and glucometers; tracking external labs; and administrative tasks such as calling patients for inside and outside facilities, entering notes into MiChart, and faxing, copying, printing and scanning patient records.
  • Required Qualifications\*

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program OR current enrollment in, or completion of coursework in a healthcare professional program (e.g., medical school, PA program, nursing program, or related clinical training) OR an equivalent combination of education and experience (1 \- 3 years).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of clinical workflows, patient care, and basic medical terminology.

  • Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assistant (MA).
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant.

  • Currently the Clinic Hours are 7:00am \- 7:30pm Monday through Friday and 8:00am \- 4:30pm on Saturdays. Shift will be determined upon hire.

  • Physical Requirements

    You will be required to do some moderate standing and walking, as well as lift, position, push, and/or transfer patients.

    As part of the orientation training process, your training may be held at multiple locations.

  • This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U\-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

  • Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre\-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
