- New hires in clinical roles must present valid BLS certification (Healthcare Provider BLS for clinicians) prior to the first day of patient care.

Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor, the Phlebotomist works collaboratively with healthcare professionals to provide quality care to community members by performing venipuncture and capillary specimen collections across all age groups. The role also supports basic laboratory functions such as specimen screening, primary processing, logging, and essential clinic services, all while adhering to infection\-control protocols and sensitive to patient reactions. This position operates interdependently under supervision, contributing to reliable laboratory service and community health outcomes. This job class is treated as an FLSA\-Nonexempt.

Examples of Tasks
1\. The phlebotomist provides indispensable support to clinical staff by managing specimen accessioning, operating key laboratory equipment, and performing foundational lab procedures. Responsibilities include receiving, logging, labelling, and organizing clinical specimens into the lab information system; operating centrifuges, automatic pipettors, and related instruments; preparing standard. Additionally, the assistant is responsible for entering specimens and test data into the Clinic’s database, ensuring accurate record\-keeping and compliance with laboratory safety and quality standards.
2\. Laboratory personnel monitor and verify test results to ensure accuracy. They promptly file validated results and related medical information into patient charts, maintaining compliance. This structured approach ensures reliable data tracking, supports clinical decision\-making, and upholds strict quality and privacy standards.
3\. Files lab results and other medical information in medical charts.
4\. Adheres to blood\-borne pathogen standards and bio\-medical risk standards. Maintains all equipment and workspace accordingly.
5\. Performs laboratory housekeeping tasks including, but not limited to, keeping shelves, counters and supply areas clean. Washes all types of glasswork as needed.
6\. Retrieves charts/records for daily patient appointments and for physician review. Distributes charts and records to appropriate personnel. Gives and receives information as authorized by phone.
7\. Restocks medical examination rooms on a daily basis. Inventories and orders supplies and equipment.
8\. Updates professional knowledge and proficiency in phlebotomy through continuing education, staff meetings, training and conferences, etc.
9\. Performs other job\-related duties as assigned to maintain and enhance departmental operation.

Minimum Qualifications
* Education \& Experience – Incumbent must have successfully completed a nationally certified Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant Program. Must have clinical experience of at least one (1\) year as a full\-time Phlebotomist or Medical Laboratory Aide. Must have one (1\) year of work experience in performing blood draws on all ages. The ideal candidate would have experience working in a community clinic setting and have some clerical experience working with medical records. Candidates who have experience working with Native Americans are preferred.
* Equivalency \- Any equivalent combination of education and experience that will allow the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job may be considered when filling the position except for the successful completion of a nationally certified Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant Program.
* Underfill Eligibility: An enrolled Community Member whom closely qualifies for the minimum qualifications for a position may be considered for employment under SRPMIC Policy 2\-19, Underfill
